Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Accessible Technology & AI Learning

Reports To : Senior Manager, Programs and Operations

I. Scope and summary of primary responsibilities
This position will support the delivery, coordination, and expansion of accessible technology and AI programming for youth and adults who are blind or partially sighted. The student will gain hands-on technical experience, develop communication and problem-solving skills, and participate in community service delivery that directly improves inclusion for equity-deserving groups. The role aligns with our organizational mandate to increase digital literacy, reduce barriers to participation, and strengthen community capacity.

II. Essential functions 

Assistive Technology & Digital Skills Support

  • Provide client-facing support for adaptive and assistive technology devices.
  • Assist participants in learning to use mainstream accessible technology and other tools (screen readers, magnification, speech-to-text).
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide digital problem-solving solutions.
  • Develop accessible digital guides, tutorials, and learning resources to assist Program Lead.

AI Literacy & Program Support

  • Participate in AI-related pilot projects, helping participants interact with AI tools in a learning environment.
  • Support AI data collection, labeling, and preparation for machine learning projects.
  • Assist in documenting AI project outcomes, participant feedback, and usability observations.
  • Learn practical applications of AI and foundational AI skills in real-world programming contexts.

Program Coordination & Digital Administration

  • Assist with program registrations, scheduling, and participant communications using digital platforms.
  • Assist with program logistics, volunteer coordination, and evaluation reporting.
  • Maintain digital records in Salesforce and other databases, ensuring accurate data tracking and analysis.

Community Engagement & Technology Outreach

  • Support accessible technology workshops, AI literacy sessions, and digital skill-building activities.
  • Assist in outreach to community partners to expand technology access and program participation.
  • Promote digital inclusion through social media, newsletters, and accessible online communications.

III. Qualifications 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Proven time management, planning, coordinating and organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills. 
  • Able to multi-task, manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail.
  • Maturity and sensitivity when working with the needs of persons who are blind or have low vision. 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload demands within strict time constraints. 
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, flexible and adaptable. 

Experience and Education 

  • Certificate or diploma in a related field or equivalent experience. 
  • 1-2 years of experience within a charity/not-for-profit organization or comparable role.
  • Knowledge of adaptive technology is an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and vision loss is considered an asset.
