Summary
Ensures the integrity of the corporate enterprise master patient index (MPI) by auditing, monitoring, measuring, and reporting on patient identity functions for all hospital, facility, LVPG practices, and LVHN owned practices. Ensures efficiency and compliance of MPI functions to meet departmental and organizational goals including consistent review, update, modification, and maintenance of the MPI through project management, implementation of efficient processes, and assessment of staff performance.

Job Duties
  • Oversees and directs day-to-day workflow and operations ensuring optimal efficiency, turnaround times, compliance, and resolution of issues to meet department and organizational goals prioritizing work based on operational needs.
  • Analyzes current and new standards, guidelines, and regulations to establish appropriate criteria for monitoring the MPI. Develops tools for collecting statistically valid data and information. Utilizes analytical skills to develop a summation of findings that includes the implementation of corrective actions. Establishes quality and productivity standards, monitors staff performance, and coaches staff to meet expectations through counseling, feedback, action plans, and disciplinary steps as appropriate.
  • Ensures the integrity of the corporate enterprise master patient index (MPI) by auditing, monitoring, measuring, and reporting on patient identity functions for all hospital, facility, LVPG practices, and LVHN owned practices.
  • Collects, prepares, and maintains monthly MPI statistical data for distribution and identification of educational opportunities for network registration/scheduling functions.
  • Orients, educates, and develops staff through the communication of regulatory, policy, EMR, and guideline changes. Ensures staff receives appropriate training and demonstrates competency in assigned tasks and system application usage.
  • Designs efficient work flow processes through problem identification, performance improvement methodologies, data gathering, and implementation of strategic actions to enhance performance and modify work flow processes based on regulatory or EMR system changes.
  • Develops policies and procedures for MPI functions, creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for all processes and systems ensuring adherence with department and organizational goals.
  • Establishes and coordinates HIM EMR MPI Analysts and HIM EMR MPI Senior Analysts work schedules to ensure MPI Staff coverage is appropriate. Completes API responsibilities for HIM MPI Analyst and HIM MPI Senior Analysts staff including approval of PTO and time sheet functions.
  • Hires, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates staff according to performance expectations and established time frames.
  • Assists the HIM Network Director with capital and operational budgets, benchmarking, and scorecard data submission.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology or
  • Associate’s Degree in healthcare related field or informatics or
  • High School Diploma/GED with 6 plus years of directly related experience.
  • 5 years healthcare or acute care hospital experience in HIM and HIM related application use with an understanding of healthcare data, how it is stored and retrieved and
  • 5 years Electronic Medical Record (EMR), information systems, and other related applications experience and
  • 3 years HIM management experience.
  • Strong management and leadership skills, motivating and directing work activities, and effectively delegating.
  • Strong problem solving abilities, investigative, and analytical skills to monitor clinical activities and other operational processes impacting the integrity of the MPI and EMR.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), phone etiquette, and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers, including physicians, administrators, other departments, and practice managers.
  • Excellent computer skills, understanding of system and technology requirements, and utilization of Microsoft Office tools. Comfortable with computer-based work flows, systems, and applications.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of patient, customer, and colleague information accessed during the course of normal business.
  • Understanding of HIM operational work flows, registration processes, and information systems.
  • Ability to educate and train peers, colleagues, physicians, and providers.
  • Good stress management skills and ability to work under pressure within time constraints and within productivity guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the Joint Commission, Accreditation Commission for Health Care (formerly HFAP), Federal and State standards and regulations.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, data-oriented, process-oriented, ability to multi task, possess good communication skills, teaching ability, and is highly efficient with a high degree of accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare related field, informatics, or Health Information Management.
  • 7 years progressive experience in all aspects of HIM functions in a large acute care setting or physician practice with HIM technology experience and
  • 5 years EMR, Epic EMR, Epic Identity module, MDM, information systems, and other related application experience and
  • 5 years The Joint Commission, Federal, and State regulatory experience.
  • RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator - State of Pennsylvania
