Teacher's Assistant

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist in educating young children ages six weeks to five years utilizing current child development theories and practices. Helps establish a culture to support learning and sustain an environment which promotes the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of children. Essential Job Functions: Assists in developing education curriculum and providing stimulating and developmentally appropriate activities which support the developmental level of each child. Observes, maintains documentation through anecdotal records, assesses children’s development, and assists in creating individualized lesson plans to meet those needs. Employs verbal and written communication to convey essential information to parents, students and colleagues. Works in collaboration with the Child Development/Early Childhood Education Department. Additional Job Functions: Maintains a safe environment by daily inspections of classrooms and playground. Inventories and identifies necessary material and supplies for classrooms. Assumes the duties of teacher as needed. Attends community functions, building a partnership with children and families. Performs other duties as assigned
