Senior Highway Inspector (NICET III)

Compensation: $100,000 - $125,000 / year
Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Highway Inspector with a NICET Level III Certification in Highway Construction to lead field inspection efforts for complex transportation infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey for NJTA/NJDOT. This role will serve as a key liaison between contractors, project management teams, and public agency stakeholders, ensuring all construction activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and perform daily inspection of highway and roadway construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, plans, and specifications
- Serves as the on-site highway inspector for construction work performed by the contractor and subcontractors.
- Oversee contractor operations including earthwork, paving, structures, drainage systems, and traffic control
- Interacts with the construction contractor’s site supervision on field activities to ensure compliance with the construction contract requirements
- Prepares daily reports, correspondence, change orders, periodic payment estimates, and quantity computations
- Observes details of work performed by others, documenting results; obtaining photographic documentation of work performed
- Confirms compliance with technical documents and industry-specific standards and codes
- Reviews and downloads field data into laptop computer and transfer to company server
- Discusses projects with project team on a daily basis
- Makes accurate judgment-calls on a variety of construction field activities
- Performs other like duties, as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering is preferred
- NICET Level III in Highway Construction certification is required
- ACI, TCC, CCTC, and NJSAT certifications required
- 5+ years of experience in highway construction inspection
- Experience with NJDOT / NJTA projects required
- OSHA 10-hour safety course is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good time-management skills
- Ability to perform under pressure
- Good skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
- A strong attention to detail is necessary.
