
Relationship Banker
Job Description
Position Purpose:
As a relationship banker you will build and retain meaningful relationships with your customers, using your financial knowledge to recommend thoughtful solutions to meet their needs. In this dual role, you will contribute to the success of the branch. You will open new accounts for new and existing customers while providing friendly and personalized customer service.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and demonstrate advanced knowledge of current bank products and services to provide accurate guidance to customers.
- Efficiently and accurately open new accounts per customer requirements.
- Quickly process routine financial transactions for members including deposits and withdrawals, loan payments, and cashier’s checks, while ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to internal procedures.
- Establish and maintain member deposit and loan accounts.
- Perform follow-up activities and outbound calls for new and existing members.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.
- Expand and retain new and existing customer relationships.
- Assess customers banking needs to provide guidance and appropriate products so customer recognize possibilities and strategies that will help them build and strengthen their financial position.
- Build a thorough profile for each customer and maintain frequent personal, phone or email contact to grow and strengthen customer relationships.
- Proactively identify and retain “at risk” customers.
- Partner with other departments within the bank to identify sales opportunities and provide awesome customer experience.
- Provide the highest quality of member service by promptly addressing member concerns and escalate to leadership when appropriate.
- Makes use of advertising leads, lists, personal contacts, referrals from the bank and branch customer base to build a book of business.
- Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally.
- Open safe deposit boxes when necessary.
- Cross train as a Service Banker and act as a backup when needed.
- Research accounts for customers as necessary.
- Effectively train less experienced employees.
- Complete required annual training and maintain knowledge relevant to the role.
- Participate in bank and community initiatives to strengthen visibility and reinforce Firstar’s commitment to the communities it serves.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned in support of the Bank’s priorities and objectives.

- High integrity and outstanding work ethic; ability to maintain confidentiality is a requirement.
- Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong sense of initiative; self-motivated.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Minimum four (4) years of face-to-face customer service experience required.
- Minimum two (2) years as a Service Banker, or equivalent, experience required.
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, with occasional standing and walking throughout the office.
- Occasional bending, reaching or stooping as needed to retrieve files, office supplies, or materials.
- May occasionally lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds (e.g., files, office supplies, packages.)
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively, including the use of visual acuity for reviewing documents and screens and auditory ability for conversations in person and by phone.
