An exciting opportunity as an Infection Control Practitioner, Temporary Part Time (6 months, Replacement)    The Infection Control Practitioner is a specialized healthcare professional responsible for preventing and managing the spread of diseases healthcare settings. In this role, you will be maintaining reporting of healthcare-associated infections, ensure ongoing compliance with IPAC program requirements, and work as an integral member of the Health Care Team with the specific mandate of meeting the goals of Infection Control Program at Women’s College Hospital. Reporting to the Manager of Health, Safety, Wellness & IPAC (or delegate), this opportunity is open to One (1) individual to work in this role on a Temporary Part-Time basis, 2.5 days per week.   Job Description Recommends, develops and maintains a system of identifying, recording and reporting nosocomial infections as approved by Infection Control leadership (Medical Director and Administrative Director). Develops, coordinates and conducts daily targeted surveillance activities of significant organisms and other healthcare associated infections using epidemiologic principles and monitors and tracks infections Reviewing the results of ongoing surveillance data with the Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C), and IP&C Director and Manager, on a regular basis Develops and delivers formal and informal educational programs and materials for staff, physicians, learners, contractors and volunteers and evaluates program effectiveness in achieving desired change or standards compliance; addressing educational gaps such as appropriate use of PPE, understanding of current IPAC practices, etc. Establishes, implements and evaluates a comprehensive, integrated education plan for the designated areas of responsibility, including: assessing learning needs related to Infection Prevention and Control for designated clinical services and support departments; developing and submitting an annual education plan, including indicators for evaluation; reporting on results of the effectiveness of education initiatives to the Infection Control Committee as laid out in the annual service goals Works as an integral member of the Health Care Team with the specific mandate of meeting the goals of the Infection Control Program in the interest of preventing/controlling the spread of infection Principal working member of and consultant to the Infection Control Committee Participates as a member of other committees requiring infection control expertise e.g. Joint Health and Safety Committee and any other committee where the expertise is required. Participates in the development, communication and implementation of IPAC policies and procedures utilizing current best practice guidelines and applicable standards. Engages in the development of innovative approaches to change management and breakthrough infection risk reduction and improvement practices and strategies in keeping with the goals set out by the Infection Control Committee and scope of practice, as outlined by APIC Participates in the continuous development of innovative/alternative strategies to conduct surveillance and other activities in a manner which reduces investment of time spent on activities, serving the needs of the various stakeholder groups and maximizing the opportunity for the Practitioner to function at a strategic/leadership level within the organization; Develops a mechanism for evaluating the effectiveness of the infection prevention and control program through prevalence studies, surveillance, feedback when teaching and consulting. Utilizes quality improvement principles in the application of infection control best practices and appropriately applies Quality Improvement methods and tools.As a role model and champion, you will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care.The responsibilities described above are representative and are not to be construed as all-inclusive.   Qualifications University Degree in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Health-related discipline or Occupational Health/Safety Master’s Degree preferred e.g. Master’s in Public Health Minimum (10) years of related experience Completion of Certification in Infection Control (CIC) Experience in ambulatory care settings and/or healthcare industry an asset with in-depth knowledge of clinical patient care practices Demonstrates strong IPAC knowledge with related work experience in a healthcare setting e.g. outbreak management, disinfection/sterilization, construction and renovation, routine practices and additional precautions etc. Possesses knowledge of epidemiologic principles, statistics, microbiology and infectious diseases. Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate IPAC policies and programs Demonstrated ability to lead IPAC-related incident investigations Demonstrates the ability to effectively translate knowledge into practice with all stakeholders (staff, patients, visitors etc.) Experience in program development and implementation Possesses knowledge of and utilizes principles of quality improvement when developing, testing and implementing a test of change Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach and facilitate change/innovation Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and facilitation/presentation skills Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and independently in a fast paced and challenging environment Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and with staff at all levels of the organization Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, able to work with a high level of accuracy Strong conceptual skills, with demonstrated knowledge and skill in problem solving, decision making and critical thinking Demonstrated effective data analysis and database management skills High degree of emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills Superior written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Professional Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and learning Good work and attendance record required Demonstrated commitment to WCH Mission and Values
