Job Description

Purpose. Performance. People.

Joining CPP Investments means joining one of the world’s most admired and respected institutional investors to drive a single mandate: to deliver strong, sustainable returns for generations of Canadians.

With a long-term horizon and global reach, we deploy capital at scale across public and private markets. Our size, stability, and disciplined investment philosophy allow us to pursue complex opportunities and build enduring partnerships worldwide.

For our people, this means meaningful work with tangible impact, real opportunity, and collaboration with exceptional colleagues who value partnership and performance. Here, you’ll contribute to outcomes that matter alongside team members committed to excellence and shared success.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate to join our Investment Engineering team. This role entails significant collaboration within the team and across various departments of the fund. The successful candidate will be empowered to own results and deliver end-to-end solutions—from raw data ingestion to production-ready analytics and reporting tools.

The Investment Engineering team works closely on portfolio management, rebalancing, tactical allocation, and research activities across TFM. The team manages and enhances the data, processes, and models that underpin these activities, ensuring scalability, accuracy, and efficiency. This role is focused on leveraging AI to transform how work gets done. The Associate will identify inefficiencies, redesign workflows, and build scalable solutions that reduce manual effort and operational complexity. This includes developing decision-support tools, automating processes, and using AI-assisted approaches to accelerate development and improve investment decision-making.

The team also oversees project management and delivery on strategic initiatives related to portfolio construction, analytics, and investment processes, collaborating with technical partners and business groups to achieve project goals. The successful candidate will operate across data, analytics, and workflow design—taking ownership of problems end-to-end and continuously refining solutions based on real-world usage and stakeholder feedback.

Accountabilities & Qualifications:

Accountabilities

  • Design and implement end-to-end data workflows, including data ingestion, transformation, analytics, and deployment.

  • Leverage AI assisted tools to accelerate development and contribute to the design/implementation of AI-enabled solutions to reduce manual effort and operational complexity.

  • Collaborate closely with different pods within Investment Engineering and other functional and strategic areas across the fund.

  • Assist in managing workflows involving handoffs between different areas of the team.

  • Develop and enhance data analytics, dashboards, and reporting capabilities to support portfolio management and investment decision-making.

  • Analyze investment and operational data, identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency gains.

  • Support the development and maintenance of models and analytics used in portfolio construction, rebalancing, and research activities.

  • Participate in project management within assigned pods under the guidance of area Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

  • Offload tasks to automated capabilities to enhance efficiency, including leveraging AI and Python-based solutions.

  • Help deliver new capabilities and increase the capacity of partner business teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, engineering, computer science, mathematics or the equivalent

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in a related role within finance or investment management.

  • Exposure to portfolio construction, portfolio analytics, or financial modelling is considered an asset.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in applying data-driven and AI-driven approaches to business problems.

  • Proficiency in Python is required; experience with data science libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy) is a strong asset.

  • Experience with data visualization and dashboarding tools (e.g., Dash, Streamlit, Quicksight) is preferred.

  • Familiarity with SQL and data querying is an asset.

  • Experience or interest in AI/ML techniques, prompt engineering, or automation is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Familiarity with project management principles is a plus.

You are motivated to contribute to something larger than yourself, approach complex challenges with rigor, and hold yourself to high standards in a collaborative, performance-driven environment.

We provide colleagues with cutting-edge AI tools, dedicated learning time, and practical support to help them deliver with greater impact.
