
Assistant Deli Manager
Job Description
Position Summary
The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing daily department operations, team leadership, food safety compliance, and merchandising execution. This role helps ensure high standards for food quality, freshness, sanitation, and customer service while supporting sales growth and operational efficiency.
- Assist with daily Deli department operations, including food preparation, stocking, case presentation, and rotation
- Support supervision, training, and development of Deli associates on food safety, service standards, and operational procedures
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, temperature control, and health regulations at all times
- Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory control, and accurate production planning
- Help manage shrink through proper rotation, portion control, markdowns, and waste reduction practices
- Execute merchandising standards, promotions, and seasonal programs
- Maintain clean, organized prep areas, service counters, and storage spaces
- Support scheduling, task delegation, and coverage to maintain efficient department operations
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer questions, special orders, and service concerns
- Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation throughout the day
- Communicate department conditions, opportunities, and challenges to store and department leadership
- Uphold safety standards and participate in store-wide safety and loss prevention initiatives
- Previous Deli or fresh food retail experience required
- Prior leadership, lead, or supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Ability to work in fast-paced food service environments
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
