A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (Chamanzar Lab) on Ultrasound-assisted Optical Coherence Tomography design and instrumentation. The goal of the project is to design and develop novel swept source and spectral domain OCT systems enhanced by ultrasound for structural and functional imaging of the nervous system. The postdoc researcher will be advised by Prof. Chamanzar and will work with a large interdisciplinary team of engineers, scientists and physicians to demonstrate and translate these devices to practical medical applications.
Core Responsibilities:
Simulation and design of optical imaging systems and piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers using ray tracing and the finite element method (FEM).
Implementation of the imaging system; and characterization of these systems in artificial and real tissue.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
PhD required
Knowledge of optics and optical imaging
Knowledge of optical coherence tomography concepts
Basic knowledge of ultrasonic instrumentation and piezoelectrics
FEM simulations of PZTs and acoustic wave propagation
CAD to design device layouts
Packaging of ultrasonic transducers
Benchtop characterization of optical and ultrasonic systems
Data analysis
A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
Desired (not required) Skills:
Lab automation using MATLAB or Labview
Printed circuit board design
