We’re excited to be in the position of hiring a Veterinary Pathologist with a production animal focus to join IDEXX in New Zealand. This is a unique and specialised role, offering the opportunity to work predominately in the large animal sector, combining laboratory diagnostics with real-world veterinary engagement. You’ll bring a holistic, cross-disciplinary approach—connecting insights from multiple sources to deliver meaningful outcomes for veterinarians and the wider industry.
Why this role matters:
This role plays an important part in strengthening how we support production animal veterinarians and the farming community in New Zealand. By bringing together insights across clinical pathology, histopathology, serology, parasitology and broader biological data, you’ll help translate complex findings into clear, clinically meaningful guidance. Your work will directly support better animal health outcomes while contributing to the sustainability and productivity of New Zealand’s pastoral farming systems.
In this role:
You interpret laboratory results across a range of diagnostic areas to provide clear, cohesive insights
You may perform post-mortem examinations on production animals
You undertake histopathology and/or cytopathology on submitted samples from all species
You work closely with production animal veterinarians, providing specialist guidance and support
You connect findings across clinical pathology, serology, parasitology and other data sources
You contribute to a more integrated diagnostic approach within the large animal space
You engage with the local veterinary and farming community in a meaningful and practical way
What you need to succeed:
You have qualifications in veterinary pathology or a related field with strong experience in large animal pathology
You bring experience across multiple diagnostic disciplines (e.g. anatomic/clinical pathology, parasitology, serology, microbiology and molecular biology)
You’re comfortable interpreting and correlating complex data sets to form clear conclusions
You have hands-on experience conducting post-mortems
You have a strong working knowledge of New Zealand pastoral farming systems
You are based in New Zealand and understand the local industry landscape
You have working rights in NZ as a veterinarian
You’re confident engaging directly with veterinarians and building trusted relationships
You’re adaptable and enjoy working across a broad and varied scope
What you can expect from us:
A flexible working environment, allowing you to maintain a great work-life balance
The chance to shape how large animal pathology is delivered within IDEXX
A collaborative, supportive environment where your expertise is valued
Ongoing development and the ability to deepen your impact in the industry
Competitive compensation package including opportunities for bonuses
Wellbeing benefits such as subsidised private health insurance, fitness reimbursements, wellness platforms and more

Meaningful work with direct impact on animal health and agricultural outcomes
