Summary:
Graduate students serving in the Peer Academic Coach position will provide non-content based academic support to undergraduate student-athletes for 15 - 20 hours per week.
Essential Functions:
Support the implementation of individualized academic plans developed by Student-Athlete Support Program (SASP) staff through one-on-one and small group academic support sessions with a designated caseload.
Monitor the student-athletes' academic progress each session.
Maintain detailed session notes in Teamworks, documenting student progress and communicating updates to SASP staff as appropriate.
Assist student-athletes in developing effective study skills and academic habits in the areas of time management, study strategies, critical reading skills, note-taking, test-taking, etc.
Recommend and assist student-athletes in obtaining and utilizing campus resources (Tutoring, Writing Center, Math & Stat Lab, Library, faculty office hours, etc.).
Meet weekly with supervisor (Director, Student-Athlete Support).
Maintain regular communication with SASP staff regarding student-athlete progress.
Provide support on SASP projects, as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
15 - 20 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$20.00 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Currently enrolled American University degree-seeking graduate student.
Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established work deadlines.
Familiarity with academic skills development (time management, study strategies, critical reading skills, etc).
Familiarity with basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.).
Maintain satisfactory academic progress and 3.0 GPA throughout your degree program.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Knowledge of and prior work experience in academic support or education.
Teaching or academic tutoring experience in a one-on-one or group setting.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Multiple positions are available.
Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 Semesters, 15 - 20 hours per week.
