Lead Engineer

Guardian is seeking a Lead Engineer with strong React and JavaScript expertise to design, develop, and support scalable, secure, and high‑quality web applications supporting Guardian’s digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop responsive web applications using React, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, and CSS
• Build reusable UI components and ensure alignment with UX/design standards
• Integrate front‑end applications with REST APIs
• Ensure code quality through reviews, testing, and adherence to Guardian engineering standards
• Collaborate with Product, UX, Backend, QA, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment
• Troubleshoot, debug, and support production issues with strong ownership

Required Skills & Experience

• 5–8 years of experience in web application development
• Strong hands‑on experience with React.js and modern JavaScript
• Solid understanding of responsive design, browser compatibility, and performance optimization
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum delivery
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem‑solving skills

Good to Have

• Experience with TypeScript and enterprise UI/design systems
• Exposure to regulated domains such as insurance or financial services
