Job Description

The History Department at the University of San Diego seeks a Teaching Professor to teach courses in Medieval / Early Modern History (ca. 500-1700 CE) in the 2026-27 academic year. 

The position is for one year, teaching four courses each per semester (a 4:4 load). 

Courses in our catalogue that the candidate might offer include “The Medieval World,” “Castles and Crusades,” “The Medieval Church and Premodern Christianity,” “The Global Renaissance,” or “European Reformations,” but we also welcome a variety of topics or approaches based on the candidate’s own research expertise that can be taught as “Topics” classes.  We especially welcome candidates who can teach one section of our introduction to historical methods and research, “The Historian’s Craft,” in Fall 2026 (sample syllabi will be provided).

This position is included in the Non-tenure Track Bargaining Unit, and the successful applicant employee, subject to the terms of the College’s Collective Bargaining will be a bargaining unit member and will be subject to the University’s Agreement with SEIU Local 721
