The role
The Head of Motor Transport will lead Manchester Airport’s Motor Transport Maintenance Division, overseeing the maintenance, inspection and repair of airport operational support vehicles and trailed vehicles in line with MAG standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
You will act as custodian of Customer Service Level Agreements governing the maintenance of third-party Airfield and Baggage Ground Support Equipment (GSE), while driving the development of new revenue streams through expansion of the external customer base. As the Head of Motor Transport, you will also be responsible for all aspects of the airport’s vehicle fuel management operation, including third-party fuel sales. As a key member of the Asset Management Senior Management Board, you will contribute to strategic business decisions and serve as the appointed deputy to the Asset Management Director, carrying delegated authority when required.
In addition, you will own the Fleet Maintenance Prioritisation and Planning Process and provide leadership to a diverse team of Team Managers, Workshop Technicians, Operatives, Maintenance Planners and Administrative staff.
What will make you successful in the role?
- Professionally qualified in Leadership, Engineering or Asset Management, with membership of a relevant professional institute and proven experience managing multi-million-pound OPEX and CAPEX budgets.
- Strong commercial and strategic awareness, with the ability to communicate and translate MAG’s vision effectively while balancing revenue growth, operational efficiency, customer service, regulatory compliance and asset performance risk.
- Demonstrable expertise in risk management, analysis and investment decision-making, with the ability to take a balanced approach to operational and commercial priorities.
- Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills, with experience presenting strategy and investment plans to executive-level audiences and managing relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- Key challenges include determining acceptable fleet risk profiles across the airport, balancing budgets with asset performance outcomes, improving asset data quality and reporting, and coordinating safe working practices with multiple third-party stakeholders across the site.
