Title: Elementary Math/Reading Intervention Assistant
Reports To:  Building Principal
Takes Direction From:  Building Principal, Classroom Teachers, Reading Specialists, Special Education Teachers
Schedule/Calendar:  5 hrs/day      25 hrs/week           172 days/year 
Summary:  The Math/Reading Support Intervention Assistant will aid the classroom teacher and Reading Specialist in executing students’ educational programs, which support students in both core programs and intervention programs.
Starting rate: $23.05/hr. - $24.59/hr. (commensurate with experience)

 

Essential Functions:

 
  • Provides support to all students in either their core instructional block or during their intervention block

  • Provides students with supportive and supplemental instruction such as reviewing and reinforcing concepts from the ongoing classroom curriculum, as well as skills and concepts identified as student area of need

  • Confers regularly with the educational team (classroom teacher, reading specialists,special education teachers) to share student progress and plan for future needs 

  • Monitors individual student progress under the direction of the educational team  

  • Maintains accurate records of student progress

  • Assists the classroom teacher in communicating with the parents by providing input on the progress of individual students

  • Maintains a log of daily instructional activities for each instructional group

  • Assists the educational team in the administration of any testing and preparation of the corresponding documentation involving students in need

 

Education and/or Certification Required: 

 
  • Associate's degree or 2 years of higher education

  • Teaching experience preferred 

 

Experience Needed:  

 
  • High School Diploma required 

  • Teaching Certification/Experience preferred

  • Excellent math and reading skills

  • Ability to multitask

  • Ability to teach young children 

  • Ability to support equity, diversity, and inclusion

Light work:  If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the individual sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 

 

Medium work:  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects. 

 

Heavy work:  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects. 

 

Very heavy work:  The incumbent should be able to exert in excess of 100 lbs of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 lbs of force frequently, and in excess of 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
