Five decades on, our vibrant community reflects the complexity and diversity of the financial ecosystem. We innovate diligently, test exhaustively, then implement fast. In a connected and exciting era, our mission has never been more relevant. Swift now has a presence in 200+ countries and legal territories to serve a community of more than 12,000 banks and financial institutions.
As a Technology Governance Specialist, you will play a key role in shaping how technology decisions are made across the organisation.
This is not a solution architecture or engineering role. Instead, you will focus on establishing and running governance frameworks that ensure technology and architecture decisions are consistent, risk-aware, and aligned with business and regulatory expectations.
You will work closely with Architecture, Engineering, Risk, Security, and Compliance teams to guide decision-making, challenge proposals where needed, and ensure high-quality, well-governed outcomes across the technology landscape.
What You’ll Be Doing
Technology Governance & Decision Framework
- Establish and operate enterprise-wide technology and architecture governance frameworks (principles, standards, guardrails, patterns)
- Own and evolve the Architecture Review Board (ARB) operating model, including:
- Scope and decision rights
- Escalation paths
- Governance KPIs and decision quality metrics
- Define and apply risk-based governance, ensuring the right level of oversight for high-impact or regulated changes
Regulatory & Risk Alignment
- Translate regulatory requirements and internal policies into practical technology governance controls
- Partner with Risk, Compliance, Security, and Operations to ensure alignment with:
- ICT risk management
- Change and configuration control
- Incident readiness and response
- Business continuity and disaster recovery
- Ensure governance outputs produce audit-ready evidence (e.g. decision records, control mapping, traceability)
Stakeholder Management & Facilitation
- Act as the central governance interface across Product, Engineering, Security, Risk, Compliance, and Operations
- Facilitate governance forums and decision-making discussions, driving clear and pragmatic outcomes
- Present complex technology topics in a clear, structured way to senior stakeholders
Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Define and track governance KPIs and performance metrics
- Identify opportunities to improve governance through:
- Automation
- Standardisation
- “Shift-left” controls
- Produce concise, regulator-friendly reporting for senior leadership and governance committees
What Will Make You Successful
We’re looking for someone who combines governance thinking with strong stakeholder influence:
- Experience in technology governance, IT governance, architecture governance, or technology risk / controls roles
- Exposure to Architecture Review Boards (ARB) or similar governance forums
- Strong understanding of how technology decisions are made and governed in complex environments
- Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g. financial services, fintech, banking, insurance)
- Ability to challenge and guide senior stakeholders, including architects and engineers
- Strong facilitation and communication skills — able to drive outcomes in complex discussions
- Experience producing audit-ready documentation and governance artefacts
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with governance tooling (e.g. LeanIX, ServiceNow CMDB / IRM, Jira, Confluence)
- Certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL, COBIT, ISO27001
This Role Is Not
- A solution or enterprise architecture design role
- A hands-on engineering or development position
- A pure PMO or process-only role
Why Join Us
- Play a high-impact role influencing enterprise-wide technology decisions
- Work at the intersection of technology, risk, and strategy
- Gain exposure to senior stakeholders and regulatory environments
- Help shape and mature modern governance practices in a complex organisation
