Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a motivated, dependable geophysical specialist with strong written and verbal skills to join our established Geophysics Team. This full-time, technical position will be involved in various activities in support of projects requiring expertise in the area of geophysics applied to environmental investigation and remediation, geotechnical and civil engineering, and other service lines within Arcadis. The ideal candidate will exhibit attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently, and will be capable of working as a productive member of a high performance, specialized team within a larger organization. In this role, you will provide technical support to Arcadis project teams which have the need for geophysical services as part of the larger project across the United States (US) and internationally while helping to support business development initiatives. This position can report to any of our U.S. offices and offers flexibility through hybrid work arrangements.

Role accountabilities:

  • When not in the office, field data collection services will typically require overnight travel within the U.S. and/or abroad;
  • Assisting and leading geophysical professionals within the firm in tasks such as data pre-processing, data manipulation, graphical renditions, and data modeling.

  • Participation in non-geophysical project activities to support environmental projects as needed to balance workloads.

This position requires both field and office work; the successful candidate should expect to be out in the field up to 25% to 50% of the time. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes. Our geophysical assignments are highly varied in scope, location, duration and can at times be with short notice and/or unpredictable schedule.

Physical endurance and ability to manage long field days requiring extensive walking and carrying of moderately heavy equipment is a must. Ability to travel for extended duration (1 to 3 weeks) may be required.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geophysics, Geophysical Engineering, or Geological Engineering (with significant geophysics course work);
  • Familiarity with geophysical data analysis and interpretation for projects potentially including, but not exclusively, electromagnetic, magnetic, ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity, induced polarization, seismic refraction, MASW/ReMi, and borehole geophysical data sets.
  • Demonstrable ability to setup, operate, and troubleshoot geophysical data collection activities.
  • Technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant coursework or work experience with required fieldwork
  • Capable of working independently and in teams to efficiently complete assignments and require minimal supervision in completion of daily tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of frequency domain and time domain electromagnetics instrumentation and data collection strategies.
  • Proficiency in collection of 2D and 3D electrical resistivity data and processing of resistivity data.
  • Familiarity with other important techniques including seismic refraction, MASW, gravity, and magnetics, and ground penetrating radar.
  • Proficiency with Modeling Software such as Res2Dinv and AGI Earth Imager for resistivity and induced polarization data sets.
  • Practical experience using Golden Software (Surfer and Grapher), GIS applications, Microsoft 365 applications, and technical programming languages such as Python and GS Scripter.
