Job Description

The Salesforce Technical Architect will serve as a strategic and hands-on technology leader responsible for architecting, evolving, and scaling Farmer Mac’s Salesforce platform to support the full lifecycle of products, customer engagement, and digital experiences. This role will lead the design and implementation of enterprise-grade solutions across both internal Sales and Service Cloud applications and modernized Experience Cloud portals serving sellers, servicers, and borrowers.

Aligned with Farmer Mac’s vision of Salesforce as a unified platform delivering seamless, user-friendly experiences for internal and external users, the Technical Architect will define and execute a forward-looking architecture strategy that enables scalability, flexibility, security, and high performance across multiple applications, integrations, and digital channels.

This position requires extensive interaction with members of the IT team, including the Enterprise Architect, Enterprise Data Architect, Database Administrators, and technical delivery teams, other Farmer Mac business units, and occasionally external stakeholders.

Where and When You Will Work

The position will be based in Farmer Mac’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. or working remotely for the exceptional candidate. Farmer Mac embraces a Presence with Purpose work environment, which allows for flexibility of work location while providing the opportunity for teams to come together in the office with purpose. Core business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. eastern time. Work outside of these times may be required for planned and unplanned activities to complete time sensitive projects or to attend off-site meetings or events. Periodic travel is expected of this position.

The People You Will Work With

The position will report directly to the Director – Salesforce Technology and will be part of Farmer Mac’s Information Technology team, directly liaising with members of the Farmer Mac IT and other departments. Occasionally, the position will serve as a liaison with external stakeholders and implementation partners.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the modernization of Farmer Mac’s Salesforce architecture, evolving legacy implementations and new build requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable enterprise solutions
  • Define and own the end-to-end technical architecture for the Salesforce platform, including internal applications, portals, and external integrations
  • Establish and enforce architectural standards, design patterns, and best practices across the Salesforce ecosystem
  • Define the overall platform strategy, including multi-org or app considerations, data architecture, integration patterns, and application boundaries
  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and delivery teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Lead technical discovery efforts, including current-state assessments, future-state design, and solution evaluation
  • Oversee the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) across multiple workstreams, including developers, configurators, QA, and DevOps/Release Management resources
  • Guide development teams through solution design, ensuring alignment with architectural principles and enterprise standards
  • Perform hands-on development and configuration when needed, particularly for complex or high-priority initiatives
  • Establish and conduct code reviews and solution reviews to ensure quality, performance, scalability, and adherence to standards
  • Define and implement robust DevOps, release management, and CI/CD processes to support continuous delivery and platform stability
  • Establish environment strategy and governance, including sandbox management, refresh strategy, release pipelines, and testing environments
  • Design and implement secure, scalable integration architectures across Salesforce and external systems (e.g., APIs, middleware, event-driven patterns)
  • Ensure platform security and compliance through proper design of authentication, authorization, and data protection mechanisms
  • Drive performance optimization, monitoring, and ongoing platform health improvements
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to developers, administrators, and other technical team members
  • Support vendor management and third-party solution evaluation, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and long-term strategy
  • Continuously evaluate new Salesforce capabilities and emerging technologies to drive innovation and platform evolution
  • Tracking and proactively responding to Salesforce releases and ad hoc patches

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience in Salesforce platform delivery, including solution architecture and hands-on development
  • Proven experience as a Salesforce Technical Architect or equivalent role designing and implementing enterprise-scale Salesforce solutions
  • Deep expertise across core Salesforce platforms, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Experience Cloud (portals for external users such as partners and customers)
  • Demonstrated ability to design scalable solutions supporting complex user groups
  • Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring developers, configurators, and technical team members 
  • Salesforce certifications strongly preferred (e.g., Certified Technical Architect (CTA), Application/System Architect, Platform Developer I/II)
  • Experience leveraging Agentforce for AI enabled Salesforce native solutions

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience delivering Salesforce solutions, with at least 3–5 years in a solution or technical architect role
  • Previous consulting experience a plus 
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps or JIRA a plus

Our compensation philosophy is targeted pay positioning relative to peers, our industry, and external markets. Farmer Mac is committed to a compensation program that will enable the organization to attract, motivate, reward, and retain highly skilled and creative talent to maintain sustained long-term performance and achieve the organization’s strategic business objectives. The typical base pay range for this role is $150,000 to $190,000 per year. Compensation will vary based on experience and geographic work location.
