The Corrective Action & Quality Engineer owns the 8D and corrective action process across two manufacturing sites within the Drinking Water Business Unit. This role focuses on solving quality problems at the root, ensuring corrective actions are fully implemented and effective, and reducing repeat issues through strong problem solving and prevention.
You will lead investigations into recurring and high-impact quality issues, work closely with plant and engineering teams, and help strengthen how corrective action is executed and sustained across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Corrective Action Ownership
- Own and drive 8D and corrective action from problem definition through verified closure
- Ensure root cause, corrective action, and prevention are clearly defined and documented
- Maintain discipline around timely and complete closure of corrective actions
Investigation and Root Cause
- Lead cross-functional investigations into repeat and high-impact quality issues
- Use data to distinguish true root cause from symptoms
- Ensure problem statements and root causes are accurate and supported by data
Effectiveness and Prevention
- Validate that corrective actions are sustained and prevent recurrence
- Establish clear criteria for verifying effectiveness
- Drive preventive actions based on trends and repeat failure patterns
Cross-Functional Execution
- Partner with Plant Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations teams
- Support alignment across Freeport and Lanark facilities
- Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders
Data and Trend Analysis
- Analyze warranty, field, and internal defect data to identify patterns
- Highlight repeat issues and systemic risks
- Support reporting and visibility into quality performance and trends
Continuous Improvement
- Apply structured problem solving and Lean principles to reduce defects and variation
- Feed lessons learned into PFMEA, APQP, and manufacturing controls
- Support updates to standard work and quality processes based on findings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field
- 3 to 7 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, or reliability engineering
- Experience owning corrective actions from open to verified closure
- Hands-on experience with 8D or structured root cause problem solving
- Experience resolving repeat or chronic quality issues
- Ability to work cross-functionally and drive actions without direct authority
Preferred:
- Experience with warranty, field, or reliability data
- Lean or Six Sigma training
Additional Information
Reports to: Quality Manager
Location: Freeport, IL with time split between Freeport and Lanark facilities
The compensation range identified below are a good faith estimate of the salary expected to be paid as performed from these locations. Actual salaries may vary based on compensable factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, education and training, and other relevant business and organizational factors. Most candidates will start in the lower half of the range.
The Salary Range: $75,000 - $105,000
