Overview

NOTE: Compensation determinations will be made based on years of required relevant occupational experience and meeting educational requirements.

 

This is a year-round position serving, on average, 40 hours per week

During assigned instructional terms, or semesters, 60% of the week is designated for students contact time, or teaching, and 40% for professional expectations, as outlined below.

 

SHIFT:  Days / Evenings / Weekends | Flexible based upon the needs of the college

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Provide instruction in Electro-Mechanical Maintenance program with an emphasis on advanced manufacturing, including automation, robotics, industrial controls, power transmission, fluid dynamics, and industrial maintenance

Educate students using current industry practices while emphasizing advanced manufacturing teaching skills required to operate, maintain, build, and sustain modern manufacturing infrastructure and laboratories

Remain current with curriculum, industry trends, and safety standards.

Educate students with core knowledge and current developments in the discipline

Provide regular curriculum and course improvement with continually updated teaching methods

Participate in subject or program leadership teams and college-wide committees

Work effectively in a team-based environment

Seek opportunities for continuous professional development.

 

Provide high quality customer service throughout all interactions

This includes but is not limited to: work effectively and positively with people from all backgrounds; help the customer find solutions; anticipating needs, and following up with the customer

Responsible for placing learning first and providing educational experiences for learners in accordance with the mission of the college inclusive of facilitating learning, assessing student performance, as well as instruction and outcomes, developing and maintaining current/relevant course materials and curriculum, working with high school dual credit teachers, and communicating with the community, other schools, the college, the division, and team members

Teaching/training in business and industry may be assigned.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned):

 

(100%) Instruction

  • Responsible for placing learning first and providing educational experiences for learners in various delivery formats, schedules, and in various places in accordance with the mission of the college inclusive of: facilitating learning of diverse students, assessing student performance, as well as instruction and outcomes, developing and maintaining current/relevant course materials, and communicating with the community, other schools, the college, the division, and team members.
  • Deliver classroom and laboratory instruction aligned with curriculum and advanced manufacturing workforce needs.
  • Teach automation, robotics, PLCs, power transmission, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electro-mechanical systems integration.
  • Apply adult learning theory and effective instructional strategies.
  • Assess student learning using formative and summative assessments with timely feedback.
  • Ensure safe operation of laboratories and equipment.

Instruction/Manage the Learning Environment

  • Curriculum: Integrate learning theories and models into curriculum design

    Update the curriculum appropriately in the curriculum design repository system and the college learning management system according to the college schedule and guidelines.

  • Delivery: Facilitate learning, utilizing a variety of delivery modes and learning theories.  Encourage engagement of students while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and functioning environment.
  • Assessment: Evaluate student learning based on course competencies and program outcomes, employing formative and summative assessments.  Provide constructive and timely feedback

    Retain records through the college information system according to program requirements.

  • Support Dual Credit and Credit for Prior Learning activities.
  • There may be operational needs requiring substitutions of alternative duties and/or the creation of flexible delivery.

Enhance Student Success

  • Modify teaching and learning based on feedback and assessment results to improve student success.
  • Create an inclusive and equitable learning environment designed to address student needs and partner with accommodation or other support services to provide reasonable accommodations, when appropriate.
  • Advise students in ways that foster the development of the whole student, and encourage persistence and timely completion of a course, certificate, diploma, or degree.
  • Assess the effectiveness of a course and/or program and take necessary steps to enhance outcomes.

 

Pursue Professional Development

  • Participate in initial and ongoing required professional development

    This includes but is not limited to college-wide meetings, on-site professional development days, Wisconsin Technical College System Faculty Quality Assurance System FQAS courses, etc. 

  • Develop and update annual goals as documented in the employee performance review.
  • Maintain required industry certifications and/or licensures.  

Participate in Planning or College Advancement

  • Participate in division, department, and program meetings to improve program health.
  • Provide input into hiring, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Participate in college advancement initiatives, including college-wide teams, advisory committees, and/or statewide teams.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and reporting of grants.
  • Support the College accreditation process.
  • Participate in program planning, development, and modification.

Outreach

  • Participate in outreach, recruitment, and community events as determined by college leadership.
  • Collaborate with Workforce Solutions on scoping business and industry needs.

Other

  • Activities required to maintain program accreditation unless part of coordinator duties.
  • Grant writing and reporting activities may be required.
  • Activities required to maintain competency, partnerships, and mutual services within external/offsite locations.
  • Oversee and coordinate operations at external sites and satellite locations that maintain campus standards.
  • Additional instructional or instructional-related activities may be assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Automation, Engineering Technology, or related discipline required

    Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) of relevant occupational experience.
  • Teaching or training experience preferred.

All instructors are required to meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job-specific licensing standards.

 

Per the subject area taught, instructors are required to possess the appropriate credentials.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of Lakeshore’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing systems, automation technologies, and workforce needs. 

SKILLS:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Utilize classroom technologies necessary for instruction (e.g., Interactive Whiteboard, SmartBoard, Projectors, Document Camera, and Lecture Capture equipment.
  • Use Worldwide Instructional Design System (WIDS) for curriculum development and access to course/syllabi information.
  • Must be innovative and able to collaborate with other staff in developing curriculum for instruction.
  • Must be well motivated and have a strong interest in contributing to the success of the College.
  • Positive human relations and effective written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Exemplify college values in all staff and student interactions as well as services delivered.
  • Fluent, multilingual individuals are beneficial.
