Job Description
Job Summary:
Provides technical cytology services including the recognition and accurate reporting of pre-malignant and malignant processes from any anatomic site (gynecologic, non-gynecologic, hematopoietic, soft tissue, etc.). Provides biopsy adequacy assessments, working closely with Radiology. Assists as needed with transportation of specimens, and cytology registration and processing as well as any other duties as needed within the department. Service is provided to patients of all age groups: premature infants, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young, middle and older adults.
Licensure and Certification:
- Current CA Cytotechnology license
- ASCP Certification as a Cytotechnologist required
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience:
- 1-2 years previous experience desirable, but not required
- Training in clinical diagnostic cytology, non-gynecology, including GI tract, pulmonary, fine needle aspiration and gynecologic cytopathology
Knowledge and Skills:
- 2 years previous on the job experience in cytology desirable.
- Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing with the ability to follow written & verbal instructions without constant supervision.
- Must meet the physical requirements of this job.
- Ability to work flexible hours. Must be able to work well in a team.
