Research, develop, and productionise ML models for distributed energy systems — household-level and portfolio-level forecasting of load, generation, and market dynamics at a scale of 100k+
Design, calibrate, and backtest probabilistic time-series models that feed dispatch and trading decisions in real-time production
Establish MLOps practices to monitor production forecasts for drift, bias, and calibration quality as well as their downstream impact
Identify opportunities to improve forecast quality and the downstream impact of forecasts on dispatch and trading outcomes
Deliver and monitor high-quality ML solutions while promoting engineering best practices and a data-driven culture.
Contribute to the data science roadmap and help shape the next generation of algorithms
Identify new market opportunities and residential flexibility value to shape the data science roadmap and next-gen algorithms
Opportunity to guide and develop more junior colleagues through design review, code review, and structured feedback
Be part of a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and other teams across Flexa's partner ecosystem
University degree in a data-driven or analytical field (Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or similar quantitative discipline)
5+ years industry experience in applied data science, with significant time spent in time-series machine learning or applied forecasting (energy domain a strong plus, not strict)
Hands-on experience with large volumes of time-series data, ideally in streaming settings
Strong grasp of probabilistic forecasting, calibration, and backtesting methodology
Proficiency in Python and software engineering practices: testing, code quality, code review, CI/CD, monitoring, and modular code design
Experience taking models beyond the notebook: from experimentation and validation through to scalable, monitored production deployment
Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
Cross-functional collaboration mindset across data scientists, software engineers, and partner-company stakeholders
Independent research experience, excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced team environment are essential.
Work experience in energy or power markets — load, generation, or price forecasting
Big-data tooling: Spark, Dask, and ML pipelines handling large volumes of data
Experience standing up a forecasting capability from scratch in a production environment
