Job Description

Job Title: ACL Pitch Clock Operator

Department: Player Development

Reports to: Manager, Player Development

Status: Seasonal, Hourly

Primary Objective:

The Pitch Clock Operator is responsible for the accurate operation and monitoring of the pitch clock system during Seattle Mariners ACL baseball games. This role ensures compliance with pace-of-play rules by starting, stopping, and resetting the clock in accordance with league regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Operate the pitch clock system during all home ACL games, ensuring proper timing for pitchers and hitters

  • Start, stop, and reset the clock based on game situations (e.g., ball in play, timeouts, mound visits)

  • Monitor gameplay closely to ensure adherence to pitch clock rules and timing guidelines

  • Communicate with umpires and game officials regarding clock operations or discrepancies

  • Immediately address and report any technical issues with the pitch clock system

  • Maintain focus and accuracy in a fast-paced, live game environment

  • Arrive 30 minutes before game time for system checks and remain postgame if needed for reporting

Education and Experience:

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Strong knowledge of baseball rules and gameplay (pitch clock familiarity preferred)

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Communications, or related field

  • Prior experience in pitch clock operation

  • Experience working in baseball

Physical Activities and Working Conditions:

  • Remain seated or stationary for extended periods while monitoring game action

  • Maintain sustained visual focus on the field of play and timing systems

  • Use hands and fingers to operate timing controls and related equipment

  • Must be able to maintain concentration in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Exposure to long work periods aligned with game durations (typically 2–4+ hours)

  • Schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays based on game calendar

Compensation Rate/Range:

The anticipated pay for this seasonal role is $15.15. All perks are subject to eligibility requirements and availability and may be modified or amended from time to time.
