About the Position
You are a key partner in the daily operational success of our guest spaces. In this supervisor role, you will keep both the retail store and our small coffee shop/cafe running smoothly by taking ownership of team scheduling, inventory tracking, and daily product ordering under the direction of the Chief Development Officer. While your primary focus is coordinating the floor, scheduling, and ordering, you will also maintain a high-energy, welcoming environment to ensure every visitor, café guest, and new pet owner has an excellent experience. You will also serve as a vital support system for the lobby, assisting the Adoptions Team to ensure a smooth, friendly experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

Daily Responsibilities
- Cafe & Retail Scheduling: Coordinate and create the shift schedules for the Retail and Barista team to ensure both the retail floor and the coffee shop are adequately staffed during operating hours.
- Cafe & Retail Shift Coverage: Provide direct shift coverage on the floor in the retail store or coffee shop during regularly scheduled shifts, as well as taking responsibility for additional coverage during team time-off, unplanned absences, or high-volume periods to ensure continuous, seamless operations.
- Ordering & Inventory Control: Monitor retail and cafe inventory levels (including coffee, food items, and paper goods), track stock, and place replenishment orders for approved products within established budgets.
- Cafe & Retail Floor Ownership: Oversee the daily flow of the retail space and the coffee shop, ensuring point-of-sale transactions and cash handling are handled with accuracy.
- Volunteer Mentorship: Guide and support volunteers by delegating daily tasks, onboarding them to the schedule, and providing guidance on customer service.
- Adoption Support & Education: Assist new pet owners by providing education-based product recommendations that support long-term pet success.
- Lobby Collaboration: Partner with the Canine Adoptions team to assist with the Welcome Desk as needed, helping visitors navigate the space and ensuring a warm atmosphere.
- Merchandising: Keep retail and cafe displays stocked, clean, and organized, using pre-determined pricing and layouts to help reach sales goals.
- Safety & Health Stewardship: Maintain a clean, safe environment that complies with food safety standards; ensure visitors follow shelter protocols, such as maintaining proper distance between personal pets.
- Dynamic Support: Actively step in to serve guests as a Barista to support the shelter's Roasterie Cafe, and perform other duties as assigned.

- Adaptability: Readiness to work a varying schedule that includes one weekend day, holidays, and varying shifts to accommodate team coverage needs.

Qualifications
- Experience: High School Diploma and at least 6 months prior customer service experience is required. Previous experience with scheduling, retail inventory, or food/beverage environments is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Willingness and ability to obtain a Kansas City, Missouri Food Handlers card within the first 60 days of employment.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs to handle large product and cafe orders that arrive on pallets.
- Emotional Resilience: Ability to navigate the unique emotional landscape of animal welfare.
- Attendance: A proven history of reliability and excellent attendance, essential for maintaining a stable operational schedule and providing shift coverage.
