Registered Nurse (RN) Circulator – Operating Room
Job Type: PRN
The RN Circulator is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care in the operating room before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role ensures a safe, sterile environment, advocates for the patient, and facilitates communication among the surgical team to promote optimal surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preoperative patient assessment, verification, and documentation (consents, site marking, history, labs, etc.)
- Ensure operating room readiness, including equipment, instruments, and supplies
- Maintain sterile environment and enforce infection prevention practices
- Coordinate surgical case flow and assist with room turnover
- Serve as patient advocate throughout the perioperative experience
- Conduct surgical time-out and ensure compliance with safety protocols
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia, scrub techs, and other team members
- Monitor patient condition and respond to changes intraoperatively
- Accurately document intraoperative events in the medical record
- Manage specimens, implants, and surgical counts per policy
- Assist with positioning and ensure patient safety measures are followed
- Participate in emergency situations and code response as needed
- Provide handoff communication to PACU or next level of care
Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license AL or multi state
- BLS required; ACLS, PALS,BLS required
- CNOR certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 1–2 years of perioperative or acute care experience preferred

- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile technique

Work Environment:
- Fast-paced operating room setting
- Requires standing for long periods and lifting/positioning patients
