Job Description

Since its founding in 1985, Queen of Peace Center (QOPC) has been providing family-centered behavioral healthcare for women, children, and families. As a member of the Federation of Catholic Charities, we serve the metropolitan and surrounding St. Louis area through four core programs: prevention, education, treatment, and housing. 

 POSITION SUMMARY 

The Registered Nurse will perform skilled nursing services and clinical tasks that promote overall health and well-being for both inpatient and outpatient clients. These services are performed in accordance with the physician’s orders and may include nursing assessments, COWS, CIWA, and other substance use related assessments. 

OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Document & Record nursing assessments and medical history accurately and timely 

• Monitor health status of clients during services provided 

• Assess and develop treatment plans in collaboration with other health care providers 

• Coordinate care with MAT provider and provide assessments as needed 

• Evaluate and document client interactions in the agency’s EHR system to include at least 6 hours per day Included but not limited to Adult Health History, Updated Medication List, Assist with appointments for Primary Care Provider, GYN provider, Intake Assessments etc.) 

• Care for 24 adult residential inpatient clients (and children) and provide metabolic screenings for outpatient clients. 

• Provide education on MAT to clients and co-workers 

• Focus on education, disease prevention, medical screening and medication     management 

• Maintain confidentiality as dictated by HIPAA and 42CFR part 2 

• Monitor vital signs and document as required 

• Adhere to medication policies and work collaboratively with staff to ensure all medication protocols are followed and charted accurately and appropriately 

• Complete daily progress notes for each client within program guidelines 

• Screen and monitor detoxification of client 

• Monitor medication side effects 

• Review of MARs (eMARSs) 

• Maintain licensure (RN,) 

• Other duties as assigned 

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

•RN with active license required; Bachelors or Associates degree preferred 

•Experience and/or interest in substance use prevention and treatment preferred 

•Understanding of ASAM levels of Care 

•Requires successful completion of background checks including criminal record, abuse/neglect and drug screening 

•Experience working in a residential setting, preferably in substance use or behavioral health 

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

• Comfortable exercising independent medical judgement while working with a tight knit group of compassionate, gifted and committed providers 

• Oral and written communication skills 

• Perform nursing assessments 

• Administer screening tools, such as COWS, CIWA 

• Substance Use Disorders & Treatment Protocols pref. 

• Demonstrates an understanding of stigma and its relationship to addiction and recovery 

• Demonstrates and understanding of trauma and its impact 

• Demonstrates an understanding of behavior management techniques 

• Demonstrates an understanding of how to prevent unsafe behaviors.  

• Demonstrates an understanding of how to address a crisis in a  supportive and respectful manner 

• Demonstrates an understanding of what activities they can perform in group 

• Demonstrates an ability to effectively manage groups 

• Demonstrates an ability to conduct and properly read a UDS 

• Demonstrates knowledge on how properly complete a MAR 

• Demonstrates knowledge on how to properly complete client vitals including Blood Pressure, Temperature, O2 Stats 

• Demonstrates the ability to properly pass medication 

• Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of Naloxone 

• Develops cultural competence with the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. 

• Demonstrates understanding of mandated reporting requirements for abuse and neglect of children and abuse, neglect or financial exploitation of senior citizens or disabled individuals. 

• Demonstrates an understanding of the population served 

• Demonstrates an understanding of trauma-informed care 

• Demonstrates an understanding of suicide prevention 

• Demonstrates an understanding of ethical behavior 

• Demonstrates an understanding of HIPAA  

• Demonstrates an understanding of addiction 

• Demonstrates an understanding of substance use disorders 

• Demonstrates a basic understanding of medications used to treat substance use disorders 

• Demonstrates the ability to properly document care within the client EHR. 

• Demonstrates an understanding of notices Withdrawal symptoms and is able to administer standardized assessments. 

• Demonstrate an understanding of the infectious disease process.

Pre-Employment Screening
