Job Description

Are you passionate about the technical artistry behind television production? WXYZ, the E.W. Scripps ABC affiliate in Detroit, Michigan, is seeking a skilled Studio Technician who will play a crucial role in bringing our broadcasts to life. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on both studio productions and field projects, ensuring every shot looks its best for our viewers.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Take charge of the placement and operation of backgrounds, platform and risers used in the television studio.

  • Operate and program studio dimmer boards.

  • Follow rundowns and execute lighting cues during live and recorded programs and productions.

  • Rig and focus lights and install set pieces.

  • May work on remote lighting projects requiring loading gear and location setup.

  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Typically requires no prior experience in related field

  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits.
     

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Must have a good understanding of television lighting methods and lighting instruments used in both studio and remote productions

  • Working knowledge of current studio and remote lighting equipment to accomplish daily preparation and production of news and other progress to service the station

  • Should have good production skills and work well under pressure

  • Ability to work with a variety of staff from all departments

  • Must be reliable, dependable possess a willingness to learn

  • Ability to climb ladders

  • Position involves studio work and field productions

  • May include standing for many hours, operating human lift equipment, climbing stairs and ladders and lifting

  • Requires flexible hours including holidays and weekends

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
