The City and County of Denver's Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) offers Arts and Culture programming throughout the year at many of our 30 recreation centers. We offer a wide variety of classes in areas such as: fine arts, pottery, ceramics, sewing, music, dance, and a wide range of crafts and creative early childhood programming (18 month – 5 years), youth programming (6-18), and adult programs (18+).

Location 

In this position you can expect to work on site at multiple recreation centers and other locations around the City and County of Denver. This position includes working day, evening, and occasional weekend hours.

What You’ll Do 

The Arts & Culture Program Coordinator will plan, organize, and coordinate the development and implementation of Arts & Culture programs, activities, and events. Arts & Culture Program Coordinators love their jobs because they are directly responsible for creating enriching experiences for all ages and building relationships that positively impact the community. Furthermore, this position provides opportunities to work with a variety of teams on collaborative projects, learn new things every day, and build a diverse set of skills - all while having fun! 

Job duties and responsibilities of the Arts & Culture Recreation Program Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Communicate and collaborate with Recreation Center Coordinators, partner organizations, or city representatives to coordinate the use of facilities and implementation of programs that have been identified through collaborative efforts to meet the needs of the community and customers 
  • Organize, administer, and develop schedules for recreation programs, activities, and events 
  • Recruit, hire, terminate, mentor, and train on-call employees or volunteers to achieve quality programming delivery 
  • Purchase supplies, equipment, and materials for recreation activities, classes, and programs 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program policies, standards, and budgetary decisions based off recorded data 
  • Develop program curriculum, model, training, and program resources for implementation 
  • Perform program pre-planning duties for assigned programs, classes, and activities including written projection of costs and fees.  
  • Coordinate with Recreation Center Coordinators to identify community and customer needs and interests, then assess program responsiveness to these interests and initiate new programming elements, including partnerships with other community-based organizations 
  • Review and evaluate programs for effectiveness and participation levels; analyze and use findings to increase program participation and assist in the development of new classes, activities, or programs 
  • Engage in outreach activities to secure community acceptance and increased participation in recreation programming

We are looking for a passionate and organized professional with excellent communication and time management skills. Candidates must enjoy being busy, be comfortable working under pressure, as well as working with high volume while remaining agile to shifting demands. This position requires strong skills in both working collaboratively and independently. Our ideal candidate will have a creative approach to problem-solving and providing innovative, equitable, and engaging programming that appeals to a diverse population. Additionally, our ideal candidate will have: 

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Recreation Management, Education, Program Administration, or an arts and culture related field 
  • Knowledge of pottery processes and studio management
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing curricula for a variety of ages
  • Experience working with youth (ages 1-18 years) in a programming or education setting 
  • Experience managing programming at multiple sites/locations at one time 
  • Experience working for a medium to large municipality; parks & recreation department preferred 
  • Experience with various supervisory functions including mentorship
  • Experience fostering and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners, providers, and organizations 
  • Experience with research, documentation, and working with data to determine strategic goals 

Required Minimum Qualifications 

Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience working in recreation, education or a closely related field.
Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or by the completion of probation.

Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
