What you'll be doing
The Director, Discretionary Management will provide strategic leadership and oversight as the primary subject matter expert for the discretionary Advisor Managed (AMA) capability within Fee Based Solutions, supporting Wood Gundy (WG) Advisors and other Wealth Management partners. This role will be accountable for driving the growth and adoption of Wood Gundy’s discretionary capability and use of scalable portfolio management philosophies and technology. The incumbent will collaborate with senior leadership, including the Executive Director and cross-functional teams, to design, lead, and execute high-impact strategic initiatives that advance and differentiate the discretionary Fee Based Solutions platform for Investment Advisors and clients. This role also has the responsibility for the Private Wealth Cross Border Program as the Private Wealth representative for the Canadian platform component of the Program.

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $111,060 to $152,710.
The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.
In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How you'll succeed
- Relationship Management- Act as the lead and strategic relationship manager for the discretionary capability and be the primary escalation point for Wood Gundy Advisors and other Wealth Management stakeholders. Own the development, creation and execution of a comprehensive training, portfolio management and onboarding framework for newly approved Portfolio Managers. Set the strategic direction for the Portfolio Manager designation process, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements. Establish and maintain servicing standards in partnership with the AMA Oversight Group, driving consistency and excellence for all AMA Portfolio Managers. Foster and expand strategic partnerships with key Fee Based Advisor supporters, senior leaders, and investment professionals to support business growth. Act as the Private Wealth lead and strategic relationship manager for Cross Border platform and be the primary escalation point for Wood Gundy Advisors and CIBC US Wealth Management
- Business Development- Develop and lead national business development strategies to drive adoption and growth of discretionary business practices , including sponsoring high-impact engagement initiatives with branches and Advisors. Identify, evaluate, and execute on opportunities to integrate multiple Fee Based Solutions into a cohesive discretionary fee-based practice, enhancing value for Advisors and clients. Provide guidance to Portfolio Managers on strategic positioning and sales enablement of their discretionary practices, collaborating with cross-functional partners to maximize impact. Maintain deep industry and competitive intelligence, leveraging insights to inform business strategy and maintain market leadership.
- Advisory Model Support- Lead the resolution of complex, high-impact issues related to discretionary or Fee Based policies and procedures, acting as the final decision authority where required. Champion enterprise-wide process optimization and cost efficiency initiatives across Fee Based programs, driving operational excellence and scalability. Exercise delegated authority to approve complex pricing and minimum investment exceptions, ensuring alignment with risk management and business objectives for Fee Based and Unified Account programs. Provide guidance and support for Advisors seeking to leverage the Cross Border Platform.
Who you are
- You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Commerce, Business or Economics, with strong analytical skill and knowledge of the full service brokerage and asset management businesses.
- You can demonstrate between 8-10 years of Wealth Management experience preferably with experience working directly with Wealth Management Discretionary programs. It is required that you have a solid understanding of Wealth Management products and services. You are a skilled communicator, capable of presenting complex information and recommendations to executive audiences and external stakeholders.
- You’re a certified professional and have a CFA or CIM designation.
- You have well-developed influential skills sufficient to resolve situations where others need to be convinced of the value of preferred options or alternatives and have a proven track record of strategic leadership, including the ability to develop and execute business plans tt drive growth, transformation, and operational excellence across a large organization.
