REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: 

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Successful completion of EMT – Paramedic program or graduation from related allied health sciences program or one (1) year related experience.

  • Passing score of 80% or higher of UTMB’s arrhythmia test.
     

JOB SUMMARY: 

 

To provide specialized advanced technical skills in all technical aspects of the telemetry monitoring system.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Operates and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system: 
    • Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system. 

       

    • Adjusts alarms. o Reviews trends and alarms. 

       

    • Cleans and maintains telemetry monitors/holders and accounts for monitor upon patient discharge. 
    • Accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift. 
    • Orders monitoring supplies. 

       

    • Obtains and documents rhythm strips per unit/department standards 
    • Maintains log book on all monitored patients. 
  • Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic Central Station: 
    • Interprets EKG rhythms. 
    • Recognizes significant EKG events. 
    • Communicates information to the responsible individual within an appropriate time frame. 
    • Immediately reports significant or life threatening changes to a RN. 
  • Participates in orienting and teaching of nursing staff, physicians and students as related to monitoring equipment. 
  • Assists with maintenance of unit equipment. 
    • Performs daily quality checks of freestanding cardio-defibrillators. 

       

  • Maintains a safe environment: 
    • Ensures that equipment has current electrical and maintenance inspections. 
    • Reports all malfunctioning equipment. 
  • Provides age appropriate interaction and care as indicated. 
  • Uses aseptic techniques and infection control measures in performance of duties.

     

  • Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crisis. 
  • Respects and supports patient / family rights. 
  • Practices positive guest and peer relations.  Participates in and supports quality improvement activities. 
  • Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment. 
  • Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member. 
  • Participates in and promotes the development of self and others. 
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
