KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose and repair electrical issues on:
- Draglines (walking systems, hoist/drag motors, control systems)
- Electric shovels (crowd, hoist, swing systems)
- Blast hole drills and auxiliary equipment
- Maintain and troubleshoot:
- DC and AC drive systems
- Motor generator (MG) sets or solid-state drive systems
- PLC and relay-based control systems
- Perform inspections and maintenance on trailing cables, cable reels, and high-voltage connections
- Work safely on and around high-voltage systems (typically 4,160V – 13.8kV)
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot: o Substations, transformers, switchgear, and breakers
- Perform switching procedures and assist with energization/de-energization
- Ensure proper grounding, bonding, and grounding system integrity
- Conduct scheduled inspections and PMs on:
- Motors, control cabinets, braking systems, and electrical rooms
- Identify wear, heat damage, and early failure indicators
- Utilize testing equipment (megger, infrared, etc.) to prevent failures
- Install and repair:
- Cable splices, terminations, and junction boxes
- Lighting systems, sensors, and communication lines
- Perform emergency field repairs to restore production quickly and safely
- Assist in rigging and positioning of cables and electrical components
- Document all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities
- Report equipment conditions and recurring issues to supervisors
- Communicate clearly with operations to minimize downtime
