
Water Engineer and LCA Analyst
Job Description
ERG is looking for a dynamic research engineer with strong technical foundations in water/wastewater engineering, data analysis, and Life Cycle Assessment to support projects seeking to improve the sustainability of our water management systems.
Job Description:
- Developing water treatment process models to evaluate the cost and environmental impact of different water treatment strategies
- Assessing innovative water and wastewater treatment technologies for their ability to remove a broad range of emerging contaminants
- Opportunities to use data science approaches to model system-level performance; identify key tradeoffs in design and operation parameters
- Routinely employ systems-level thinking to evaluate and solve complex problems
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or similarly technical program; specific coursework in life cycle assessment a plus
- Master’s degree or higher preferred; may also consider a Bachelor’s degree with sufficient professional experience
- 3+ years applied professional experience
- P.E. in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar a plus
- Working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes; experience with system design or operation a plus
- Demonstrated ability to apply life cycle assessment through work experience, including experience with LCA software (e.g., SimaPro or openLCA)
- Strong computer skills relevant to data manipulation and analysis. Experience with advanced Excel functions and Python is strongly preferred; GIS experience a plus
- Ability to think creatively and holistically about complex systems
- Passion for and experience in data-driven sustainability analysis
- Familiarity with a wide range of data sources relevant to environmental and policy analysis and the ability to identify and engage experts to conduct research
- Demonstrated ability to communicate research findings in technical report or journal article
- Well-developed problem-solving, systems thinking, quantitative, and critical thinking skills; intellectual curiosity
