Job Description

Job Summary

This Watershed Maintenance Technician seasonal worker provides key support to the Watershed and Environmental Management Department (WEM). This position is responsible for safely performing a wide variety of duties related to the maintenance of outside properties, woodlands, fields, dam slopes, well fields, roadsides, reservoirs, shorelines, etc. in order to maintain prudent stewardship of the watershed properties. Assists in source protection and natural resource management activities, as directed.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Conduct all activities and equipment operation in a safe manner
  • Mow grass including dam slopes, pipelines, & roadsides with tractor mounted implements
  • Removal of and cuts, chips, and/or burns brush and trees
  • Invasive aquatic plant species removal by boat
  • Operations pertaining to wildlife management
  • Tree and shrub planting
  • Litter/rubbish pickup and removal
  • Snow removal at company facilities
  • Forest access road construction and maintenance
  • Assist with maintenance of equipment
  • Conduct or manage field repairs of equipment when necessary
  • Utilize communication tools (e.g. company email, company issued cell phone) to keep supervisor or others informed of progress and/or issues encountered in the field
  • Equipment Operating Capabilities:
      • AEBI slope mowing tractor (flail mower and snow blower)
      • Rubber tire tractors in excess of 45hp
      • Tractor implements: flail mowers, offset rotary mower, brush mower, hydraulic boom mower
      • Boats and outboard motors: canoes, rowboats and various sized boats with outboard motors
      • Walk behind mowers: Scag, Billy Goat
      • Chainsaws, weed trimmers, back pack blowers
      • Truck mounted snow plow and sander

Preferred Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on landscaping or similar field work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operation
  • Ability to swim

Education/Certifications

  • Minimum high school diploma required, associate or trade school certificate is highly desirable
  • Chainsaw Safety Training (preferred)
  • CT Boating Safety Certificate (preferred)

Salary

  • This is a temporary, full-time, non-benefit eligible position, typically May through August.
  • Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00AM to 3:30PM, 40 hours per week.
  • Salary will be $23.00
  • This position reports out of Easton (Aspetuck Environmental Center).
