
Kitchen Equipment Technician

General Description:
Performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the repair and maintenance of kitchen and refrigeration equipment. Work is performed under general supervision without specific instructions. Receives daily work orders from team leader or supervisor.Job Description:
- Repairs and maintains various types of kitchen and refrigeration equipment, including: walk-in freezers, refrigerators, industrial-sized steam cookers, washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers, ice machines, water coolers, etc.
- Inspects and performs preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment; cleans and services equipment in the summer.
- Installs new equipment; maintains settings on wiring controls; repairs leaks; replaces old or defective parts.
- Works with other maintenance workers, school officials, and staff to resolve maintenance problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility:
Provide and verify invoices in a timely manner. Adhere to county spending guidelines.
Report Preparation:
Provides written report on daily work order activity and paperwork within the trades.
Equipment Operation:
Utilizes power tools and equipment pertaining to assigned area. Must demonstrate skill in use of equipment pertaining to kitchen equipment repair. Must demonstrate safe practices in the use of all equipment.
Contacts:
Food and Nutrition Services administrators, personnel and office staff, and office staff and administrators from individual schools. Occasional contact with vendors, building inspectors and contract workers.
Work Direction/Supervision:
Occasional direction given to trades assistants and Building Operations Supervisors.
Decision Making:
Frequent independent decision-making and problem-solving as it relates to kitchen equipment repair. Seek supervisor’s approval for extensive repairs/replacement, all expenditure outside of routine supplies and materials, before calling an outside contractor.

Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal indoor levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is exposed to extreme cold and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Qualifications:
Additional Job Requirements:
Refrigerant transition and recovery certification. Education, training or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid VA Driver's License. This position is designated as a driving position. In accordance with Policy 5431, driving record checks are performed annually on individuals occupying driving positions.
