Classification Title: Temporary Position
DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision the School Administration, the Substitute Paraeducator assists students during the absence of a regular paraeducator. Substitute Paraeducators are expected to maintain a professional attitude toward their work and support the mission and goals of the school system.
Substitute Paraeducators are assigned on an as needed basis and are temporary employees. Substitute Paraeducators are assigned due to paraeducator absences or position vacancies. Payment for Substitute Paraeducators is based on a half day (3 hours and 59 minutes or less) or full day assignment and may be daily, or extended assignment.
Substitute Paraeducators must commit to at least two (2) days per week, per quarter to be eligible for consideration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet all qualifications below to be considered for the vacancy.
Education:
A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent is recommended.
References:
Two supervisory references will be requested prior to any offer of employment. A task action will be sent by your recruiter upon meeting job qualifications.

Support the teacher or classroom they are assigned to
Maintains a safe environment
Uses materials provided by the teacher or other school personnel
Avoids engaging in or encouraging discussions of inappropriate or non-school related topics
Becomes familiar with emergency procedures
Notifies school administration of any unusual incidents which have occurred during the school day
Reports suspected child abuse/neglect per Howard County Public School System policy
Other duties as assigned.

Working Hours
Substitute Paraeducators must commit to at least two (2) days per week, per quarter to be eligible for consideration.
Full Day: Follow School’s Schedule in Frontline
Half Day: (3 hours and 59 minutes)

A copy of High School Diploma or a college Transcript if available. All foreign education must have an education evaluation by one of the agencies approved by Maryland State Dept. of Education (MSDE).

Compensation
This is a temporary position. Rates of pay may be reviewed on our website.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Professional references will be contacted prior to any offer of employment. Recommended candidates will be required to provide references from current and recent supervisors.
All employees, regular and temporary, must be fingerprinted, have a criminal background investigation completed, and successfully complete the Maryland Employment History Review, pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland. In addition, some positions will require completion of a physical examination and/or drug testing.
