Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
NOTE: This position is only available to current and active C2BMC personnel
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
The Software Engineer/Product Owner is responsible for collaborating with the C2BMC-G software development team to develop and test innovative solutions that support MDA projects and experiments. They also define and oversee the product's vision, roadmap, and backlog to ensure it provides value to users and aligns with business objectives.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for understanding customer needs, prioritizing features, and collaborating with development teams to deliver successful product releases
- Non-standard work hours may be required during event execution, and a small amount of travel may be required
Basic Qualifications:
Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
- Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance
- Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
- Must have demonstrated contributions to object-oriented software development and testing, including the ability to analyze high-level needs and define a structured, logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that led to a fielded product
- Must demonstrate proven ability to communicate clearly, effectively present technical methods and findings, and have experience in writing and executing engineering plans within projects.
- Must have proven skills in the following areas:
- Development of new software capabilities
- Java (or other object-oriented languages) for software development
- Principles and patterns of object-oriented development
- Create comprehensive and reproducible tests
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- The Software Engineer must understand software development processes and principles and be able to communicate the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and system users
- Must be comfortable with rapidly changing requirements, design challenges requiring novel solutions, fast-paced work, and tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
The following knowledge base and/or skills are desired for the Software Engineer position:
- Test-driven development combined with continuous integration
- Designing software architecture
- Principles for developing Service-Oriented Architecture
- Capability to refactor code to enhance reusability, readability, and maintainability in an object-oriented codebase
- Familiarity with Java-based User Interface development
- Knowledge of Web-based User Interface development
- Application deployment, integration, and troubleshooting
- Experience operating systems, including Windows and Unix/Linux
- Proficient in using Eclipse IDE, Maven, and Git
- Perform and engage in peer review activities
- Capability to extract data for analysis support
- Strong communication skills in both writing and speaking
- Implementation of algorithms
- Development of messaging interfaces
- Overview of the BMDS: Theoretical foundations and practical uses
- Theory and practical use of command and control systems
- Overview of track correlation algorithms and their practical use
- Knowledge of Link-16, covering its content, transmission protocols, and related aspects
- Experience with Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)
- Applying the Agile methodology in software development

Primary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
