PRINCIPAL, ELEMENTARY

 

The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal Elementary to collaborate with, support, and lead students, staff, and community of 24TH Street Elementary towards academic excellence.

 

24th Street Elementary School is seeking a collaborative, dynamic, and student-centered leader to join its dedicated school community as principal.  Located in the heart of Los Angeles, the school serves approximately 500 students in Preschool for All Learners and Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade.  24th Street Elementary is a diverse and vibrant learning community serving a predominantly Latino student population (80%), along with African American (12%), Asian (2%), Filipino (2%), and other culturally diverse students. Approximately 21% of students are English Learners, 23% are students with disabilities, and 16% are identified as GATE, with specialized support provided through PALs and Autism Core classrooms for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade. Serving a predominantly socioeconomically disadvantaged community, the school is grounded in the belief that circumstances do not determine destiny and is committed to recognizing the brilliance, strengths, and potential of every learner A Title I School, Community Schools, and two-time U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Gold Level Award recipient, 24th Street Elementary is recognized for its leadership in sustainability, environmental education, and wellness. Its one-acre instructional garden provides weekly Farm-to-Table learning experiences that connect science, nutrition, and student leadership. Through rigorous project-based learning, students engage in critical thinking, real-world application, and enriched educational experiences.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

is a collaborative, equity-driven instructional leader who inspires joy, belonging, and excellence while accelerating student outcomes for all learners. They possess deep knowledge of the Common Core State Standards, LAUSD instructional frameworks, the English Learner Master Plan, Special Education, and the LAUSD Strategic Plan. The successful candidate builds educator capacity through coaching, meaningful professional learning, and strong Professional Learning Communities, while using data to drive continuous improvement and measurable student achievement. They foster a positive, safe, and joyful school culture, develop authentic partnerships with students, families, staff, and community members, and demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Experience with shared governance structures, strategic budgeting, and cultivating joy is highly desirable.

SALARY:

41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position.

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                      • Multicultural coursework*
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university    • District Master Plan requirements*

 

*Candidates have one year to complete this requirement

 

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
