Overview
The Payroll Specialist processes payroll data for Buc-ee’s. The ideal candidate will have a willingness to learn and understand multi-state payroll, payroll systems and human resource systems.
This is an in-office position in Lake Jackson, Texas.

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for high volume multi-state payroll processing
Maintain payroll records including quarterly and annual tax reports and voluntary deduction reports
Process involuntary deductions, such as levies and garnishments
Prepare accounting transactions and documents, booking payroll journal entries.
Document and update procedures
Prepare reports for management upon request
Work closely with payroll team to timely and accurately complete and report tasks within strict daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines
Complete new business set-ups including federal, state, and SUI registration
Review time sheets for accuracy, completeness and conformity with company policies
Maintain and update employee information such as exemptions, transfers, new hires and resignations
Maintain an accurate and secure filing system for payroll information
Maintain relationships with external vendors
Stay apprised of federal, multi-state and local compensation laws and regulations in order to ensure compliance
Ensures payroll and general ledger data integrity
Assist in the functions necessary for the proper and timely processing of employee payroll data, including, but not limited to garnishments, benefits, and taxes consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
Continuous knowledge of changing laws, such as FLSA, DOL, APA, ACA and other regulatory changes relating to the payroll function
Ensure the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions and terminations is accurate and timely and in compliance with regulations
Process benefit deductions and work with Human Resources and Accounting on reconciliation
Assist with the processes and audits of W-2’s, W-4’s, and other regulatory reporting
Strong written and verbal communication skills, team player, and highly organized
Solutions-oriented, positive approach to problems and challenges
Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
Participate in internal and external payroll audits
It is an essential function of this job for the employee to work in office/in the employee’s assigned work site. No remote work is available

The position requirements include, but are not limited to:
Required: High school diploma or GED
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent
Must be willing to obtain FPC, CPP payroll certifications
Experience with Workday a plus
Familiar with a multi-state payroll department a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft product suite, especially Excel required and used daily
