Head of Nordic Proprietary Trading
Job Description
We are seeking a senior leader to head our Nordic Proprietary Trading Unit, with full responsibility for performance, strategy, and risk management. You will lead trading activities across power, fuel and emissions markets, driving profitability while ensuring disciplined risk-taking and compliance. This is a leadership role at the core of Statkraft’s trading operations.
Your responsibilities
- Lead and develop Statkraft’s Nordic proprietary trading activities across Oslo, Trondheim, and Stockholm
- Own trading performance, including P&L, risk exposure, and capital efficiency
- Define and continuously refine the unit’s strategy in collaboration with VP Trading and VP Trading Strategies
- Ensure robust risk management, compliance, and liquidity oversight
- Drive the integration of fundamental analysis into trading decisions in close collaboration with analyst teams
- Build strong interfaces with key internal stakeholders, including Risk, Operations, and Analysis
- Provide transparent and proactive communication of market developments, risks, and opportunities
- Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team of traders and analysts
- Strong academic background in economics, finance, mathematics, or similar
- Proven track record in proprietary trading, including leadership responsibility
- Deep understanding of European energy markets (power, gas, emissions)
- Demonstrated ability to manage risk and deliver consistent trading performance
- Experienced leader with strong people development skills
- Commercial mindset combined with high integrity and sound judgment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders
