Maintenance | Plant Utility | 1st shiftPosition Overview
The Plant Utility role supports multiple departments by performing combustible dust cleaning, removing trash and running the compactor, operating a scrubber, and completing other safety and housekeeping tasks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Vacuum overhead pipes, support beams, and other elevated areas with dust accumulation that cannot be reached from floor level.
- Clean tops of electrical cabinets, production equipment, and other elevated surfaces with dust accumulation reachable from floor level.
- Perform combustible dust cleaning of upper areas throughout the facility, including overhead pipes, support beams, equipment, ceilings, and similar surfaces.
- Operate a vacuum cleaner and attachments.
- Operate a scissor lift and scrubber safely and proficiently.
- Remove trash inside and outside the plant and safely operate the compactor.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area and perform all duties using safe work methods.
- Communicate problems or concerns to the manager in a timely fashion.
- Complete other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certified or willing to become certified to operate scissor lift, scrubber/sweeper, and other PITs.
- Able to adhere to the plant cleaning schedule within specific time frames.
- Able to work independently at a safe, fast pace.
- Willing to work overtime as required.
- Comply with corporate absenteeism and tardiness policy.
Work Schedule
Work is normally performed on scheduled days on Monday – Friday with adherence to established start and stop times. Work may be scheduled during non-production hours (night shift and weekends) as needed.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a manufacturing/industrial facility and outdoor area.
- Work may involve exposure to dust, noise, moving equipment, temperature changes, and weather conditions when working outside.
- Tasks may require working at heights using aerial lifts and ladders in accordance with safety procedures.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to site safety rules are required.
Physical Demands
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach while performing cleaning tasks.
- Ability to push/pull equipment and maneuver vacuum hoses and attachments.
- Ability to lift and carry supplies, tools, and equipment (weight may vary by task).
- Comfortable working safely at heights and entering elevated work areas using approved access equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to wear required PPE for long periods of time (e.g., eye, hand, face or hearing protection required by the task and/or area).
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Safety practices - PPE, PIT / Scissor Lift, Fall Protection, etc
- Computer skills for work order documentation and miscellaneous tasks
- Measurement units, techniques and application of appropriate tools
- Math skills to include: Arithmetic, Application of formulas, Conversion of measurement units.
- Identification and proper use of tools, focused on selection of the right tool for work assignment application.
