Position SummaryThe Support Worker provides a range of supports for chronically homeless individuals living in the community, many of whom have concurrent mental illness, substance use and/or physical health issues. Using a strengths-based model, the Support Worker participates with tenants and Service Plan Coordinators in the development and implementation of service plans, including assessment; goal setting, achievement, and review; resource acquisition; and monitoring in the areas of daily living, financial, vocational/educational, social supports, health, harm reduction, culture, recovery, and leisure/recreational supports. The Support Worker works closely and collaboratively with other direct service staff, family, and external service providers, advocating for access and rights as needed. The Support Worker also provides daily supports including medication administration, building security, crisis intervention, health and recreational groups and general problem solving. At present, includes a 30-minute unpaid meal break.  (Current schedule is subject to change.)Work Site: 220 Princess Avenue, BC        Start Date: June 18, 2026 *Standard Medication Training or a commitment to partaking in Standard Medication Training is required.  *A clear British Columbia Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable adults and/or children is a condition of employment with RainCity Housing. Applicants must be willing and able to receive a clearance under the Criminal Record Review Act.    *Gender is a bona fide occupational requirement: women (trans, cis), gender diverse, and Two-Spirit staff only please. PurposeThe purpose of the float position is to fill shifts efficiently and prevent over time and staffing shortages. ProcedureEach Float Support Worker will be assigned to a Home Program.As shift vacancies occur in programs, the Float will be deployed to fill the vacancies.Float staff can be deployed to fill shifts prior to the shift being callout out to relief staff, prior the shift being offered in overtime, or in emergencies to prevent staffing shortages.If a vacancy does not happen for a float shift, the Float staff will be assigned to work the shift in their home program. Program SummaryThe Budzey provides housing for women and women-led families. There are 147 units in total: 106 studio apartments for single women and 41 one, two and three bedrooms apartments for women – led families. It is estimated that there will be up to 220 people living in this building – with up to 55 children. The building will also have the Administration offices for RainCity Housing. This is a large building – 10 stories - with complex building services. The building will open spring 2015. QUALIFICATIONSMany forms of education and experience are valued, including volunteering, and lived experience of mental illness/addiction/homelessness. Minimum education and experience include: •    A Diploma in community social services.•    Two (2) years of recent, related work experience with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness and/or social services.•    Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.•    Current First Aid and CPR certification.•    Class 5 Drivers’ License and acceptable driver’s abstract is preferred. Key Skills and Abilities – for supporting people receiving our services•    Establish and maintain collaborative relationships.•    Identify and work to increase people’s strengths.•    Work with people using hope-inducing strategies.•    Informally teach harm reduction, life skills•    Implement client-centred service plans.•    Respond to problematic behaviour using an understanding of the behaviour's context and function.•    Knowledge of the integrated concurrent disorders recovery model for working with chronically homeless individuals.•    Knowledge of mental health diagnoses, medications, treatment, and support resources •    Knowledge of the bio-psychosocial addictions model, including stages of change and harm reduction.•    Knowledge of diagnoses, treatment, and support resources in the areas of substance use, physical health, HIV and Hepatitis C.•    Knowledge of the housing continuum, including supported housing systems and program models for special needs populations.•    Demonstrates understanding of oppression and marginalization as related to chronically homeless individuals.•    Assists participants in maintaining a clean apartment, including encouraging independence and increasing skills, washing belongings and cleaning apartment, assisting with pest control, and liaising with home support, if applicable.•    Completes shift duty list, as per program requirements.
