Job Description

Osborn is seeking an Innovation Systems Developer who will report to the Innovative Solutions leadership team and is able to undertake a wide range of system development, data strategy, and automation initiatives. Primary responsibilities will include organizing and connecting data across systems, developing automation tools and workflows, advancing AI and LLM initiatives, and improving how the firm uses information to make decisions.

This role is part of the Innovative Solutions team and focuses on building and connecting systems that make the firm more efficient, informed, and capable. This is not a traditional IT or support role. This position is focused on reducing friction in how we work, turning data into usable insight, and building firm-specific tools that solve real problems.

Osborn is a fully integrated multi-disciplined design firm that uses a specialized team approach to engineering projects. These teams are comprised of a staff of more than 380+ professionals that provide designs for all phases of a wide range of projects. Osborn has specialists in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and life safety, technology engineering, transportation and commissioning. Position Responsibilities:

Successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of internally developed solutions that improve operational efficiency, data accessibility, and decision-making across the firm and will be responsible for a wide range of system development, data, automation, and internal tool initiatives across the firm, including

  • Data Strategy & Organization
    - Structure and connect data across systems to improve accessibility and usability.
    - Support firmwide data standardization efforts.
    - Develop approaches to ensure data quality and consistency.
    - Enable better use of project and operational data across teams.
  • Automation & Workflow Improvement
    - Identify and eliminate repetitive and manual processes.
    - Develop automation scripts and workflows to improve efficiency.
    - Build lightweight internal tools tailored to Osborn’s processes.
    - Support system connections across platforms (SharePoint, Newforma, Deltek, Autodesk, etc.).
  • Systems Integration
    - Develop and maintain integrations between business platforms using APIs.
    - Help connect workflows and data across core systems.
    - Support initiatives such as the SharePoint intranet rebuild and system modernization efforts.
  • Analytics & Decision Support
    - Analyze operational and project data to identify trends and inefficiencies.
    - Develop dashboards, reporting tools, and data visualizations.
    - Support leadership in making more informed, data-driven decisions.
    - Explore predictive insights where applicable.
  • AI / LLM Development & Innovation
    - Contribute to the development and advancement of internal AI tools, including Osborn’s internal AI system (FRANK).
    - Build and test LLM-driven workflows and knowledge tools.
    - Identify practical applications for AI across operations and project delivery.
    - Evaluate emerging technologies and translate them into usable solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Support
    - Act as a liaison between technical solutions and business users, ensuring practical and usable outcomes.
    - Assist with coordinating processes and creating documentation for internal systems and tools.
    - Support firm initiatives related to operational efficiency, system connectivity, and data visibility.
    - Other tasks as assigned
 

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent hands-on experience and demonstrated capability will also be considered.
• Experience working with data, systems, automation, or software development.
• Proficiency in programming or scripting (Python, JavaScript, SQL, or similar).
• Experience working with APIs and integrating systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to translate technical solutions into practical business applications.
• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-driven with a strong interest in building and improving systems.

 

Preferred Experience
• Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
• Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON.
• Experience with databases and data pipelines.
• Exposure to AI/ML, LLMs, or prompt-based systems.
• Experience working within AEC or similar operational environments.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Deltek, Autodesk, or Newforma.

 

Certifications (Optional/Desired)
• Microsoft Azure, Power Platform, or AI-related certifications.
• Data analytics or cloud platform certifications (Power BI, etc.).
• Other relevant technical certifications (Python, SQL, APIs, etc.).
