At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, we have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Engineer. The Lead Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and leading the delivery of enterprise CRM solutions using the Pega platform at BCBSMA. This role drives scalable, secure, and high-performing systems that support member and provider engagement while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational standards.
This role is eligible for our Flex Persona. For candidates local to our Boston, MA and Hingham MA offices.
Your Day to Day:
Lead the design, development, and implementation of Pega CRM solutions, including workflows and case management
Define and maintain system architecture aligned with enterprise standards
Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, and best practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Oversee Agile delivery, including sprint planning, execution, and releases
Ensure system performance, scalability, and reliability
Support production systems, including incident management and root cause analysis
Develop and manage API integrations with internal and external systems
Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and regulatory requirements (HIPAA, CMS, HITRUST)
Maintain proper documentation, design artifacts, and technical standards
We’re Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
8+ years of software engineering experience
3+ years of hands-on experience with Pega CRM
Proven experience in technical leadership or lead engineering roles
Strong experience with API development, integrations, and distributed systems
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Preferred: Experience in health insurance or healthcare domain and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
What You Bring:
Strong expertise in Pega platform architecture, workflows, and decisioning
Ability to design scalable, high-performance, and secure systems
Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance requirements
Proficiency in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to work across cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities
Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices

Full timeSalary Range: $160,920.00 - $196,680.00The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.
This job is also eligible for variable pay.
