Job Description:

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

We are hiring for one permanent, full-time position located in Central Point, Oregon. 

What you will do:

You will assist the West Region research team in conducting wildlife research studies on the biology and requirements of wildlife species in western Oregon, west of the Cascades crest. Contribute to departmental policies and species-oriented plans in managing black bear, cougar, elk, black-tailed deer, and forest carnivores.

This position requires the successful candidate to occasionally use a firearm as well as have, or be able to obtain, an ATV Safety Education Card within 6 months of hire.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Qualifications:

In order to qualify for this position, all applicants must meet one of the following options:

  • Option 1: Eighteen months of experience in the care of livestock, agricultural research and experimentation, monitoring game or wildlife, or farming. (Six months of fisheries, fish culture, fish screens, or related habitat work experience will count toward this experience)

  • Option 2: An Associate degree in Wildlife Biology/Technology or Agriculture

Equivalency note: A higher level degree in Wildlife Science, Agriculture, or a closely related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework will substitute for the Associate degree.

Requested Skills:

  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

  • Writing reports or publications

  • Gathering data and performing statistical analyses

  • Conducting biological surveys on wildlife

  • Coordinating field logistics for wildlife research projects

  • Handling, capturing and marking wildlife

  • Use of radio-telemetry receivers/antennas, hand-held GPS units, and electronic tablets

  • Ability to operate 4-wheel drive vehicles and navigate on poor condition roads
