Purpose

Deliver exceptional sales and business performance by acquiring, developing and maintaining highly proactive, long term client relationships. Protect Barclays reputation through sound risk decisions by managing client group within their risk profile and appropriate regulatory framework.

Accountabilities

  • Manage and grow client relationships and acquire new clients - identifying and managing solutions to meet a wide range of client needs

  • Establish a sound understanding of the strategy of the clients in their portfolio through regular proactive contact, responding to client / prospect queries and requests and identifying opportunities that will deliver long term commercial reward  

  • Manage operational, reputational, financial crime and credit risk for the portfolio to avoid exposing Barclays to undue risk

  • Ensure all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework  and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

  • Service/group relationships - referrals to group colleagues

Join us as a Private Banker within our growing Private Banking team based in Guernsey.

  

The Private Banking team offers banking and investment solutions to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. Barclays Private Bankers act as trusted advisers, delivering tailored banking, lending, wealth structuring and investment solutions through a world-class platform and specialist network.

As a Private Banker, you will be responsible for building, managing and growing your own portfolio of client relationships, generating sustainable revenue growth and identifying new business opportunities within Guernsey and the wider Barclays network. You will represent Barclays Private Bank in the local market, developing professional introducer relationships and positioning Barclays as the trusted adviser of choice for wealthy individuals, families and business owners.

Private Bankers are expected to identify, originate, build and maintain effective internal and external referral relationships to create sustainable opportunity flows for new clients, assets under management and revenue generation. Success in the role will be measured through client acquisition, book growth, revenue generation, client retention and collaboration across Barclays businesses 

What you will be doing:

  • Building, developing and growing a portfolio of High Net Worth and Ultra High Net Worth client relationships.
  • Delivering against agreed revenue, asset growth and Net New Money objectives.
  • Identifying, originating and converting new-to-bank opportunities through self-generated activity, professional intermediaries, centres of influence and internal referrals.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong pipeline of prospective clients and opportunities.
  • Acting as the primary trusted adviser for clients and their families, understanding their financial objectives
  • Hosting complex client discussions involving banking, lending, investments, succession planning and wealth structuring solutions.
  • Conducting regular client reviews and developing strategic relationship plans to deepen client engagement.
  • Working closely with investment specialists, credit specialists and wealth advisors to deliver holistic client solutions.
  • Representing Barclays within the local market and building a strong external professional network
  • Supporting, coaching and mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to the wider success of the Private Bank team.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of risk management, governance and regulatory compliance.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Proven experience within Private Banking, Wealth Management or a related client-facing advisory role.
  • Demonstrable track record of business development, client acquisition and relationship growth.
  • Experience managing and growing a portfolio of HNW and UHNW clients.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to generate sustainable revenue growth.
  • Exceptional relationship management and stakeholder influencing skills.
  • Experience working with professional introducers, intermediaries and referral networks.
  • Strong understanding of banking, lending, investment and wealth planning solutions.

Desirable skills:

  • CISI Level 4 qualified or equivalent.
  • Chartered Wealth Manager, CISI Level 6, STEP or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Proven experience as a Private Banker managing a significant client book.
  • Existing network across Guernsey and the Crown Dependencies professional community.
