Digital Platforms R&D Leader
The Digital Platforms R&D Leader will be responsible for driving the strategy, architecture, development, and operational excellence of Philips’ core digital platforms, including HSCS (HealthSuite Consumer Services), C2ME (Common Consumer Mobile Experience), and DevSecOps platforms. This role will lead a high-performing organization of approximately 50 engineers across multiple platform domains and play a critical role in accelerating platform scalability, security, innovation, engineering productivity, and consumer-centric digital experiences.
The leader will work closely with engineering, product management, architecture, quality, security, and business stakeholders to define and execute platform roadmaps aligned with organizational goals, consumer needs, and business priorities.
Your role:
Define and execute the R&D strategy and roadmap for digital platforms covering cloud services, mobile experience platforms, and DevSecOps capabilities
Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary engineering organization across platform development, operations, and enablement
Drive platform architecture, scalability, reliability, security, privacy, and performance improvements
Ensure strong consumer focus by enabling seamless, scalable, intuitive, and high-quality digital experiences across products and platforms
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align platform capabilities with product, consumer, and business objectives
Enable common platform capabilities and reusable services across multiple products and business units
Drive platform standardization and maximize leverage of external partners, third-party platforms, frameworks, and SaaS solutions wherever appropriate to accelerate innovation and optimize cost and speed
Evaluate build vs. buy decisions and establish strategic technology partnerships to improve platform effectiveness and engineering efficiency
Lead technology modernization initiatives across cloud, mobile, backend, DevOps, and platform engineering domains
Drive engineering excellence through standardized processes, automation, quality practices, and operational metrics
Champion DevSecOps practices, CI/CD maturity, observability, release governance, and operational resilience
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, security, privacy, and quality standards
Manage R&D budgets, resource planning, prioritization, and execution timelines
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous learning, and collaboration
Identify delivery and operational risks proactively and implement mitigation strategies
Provide regular leadership updates on roadmap progress, delivery status, platform health, and organizational priorities
AI and Engineering Transformation Responsibilities
Drive adoption of AI-enabled software engineering practices across the SDLC
Lead AI-based SDLC transformation initiatives to improve engineering productivity, quality, automation, testing efficiency, and developer experience
Promote the use of AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, code reviews, documentation, observability, and operational analytics
Evaluate emerging AI technologies and define strategies for responsible and scalable adoption within engineering workflows
Partner with architecture and engineering leaders to embed AI capabilities into platform engineering and DevSecOps practices
You're the right fit if:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Overall 15+ years of experience with minimum 5+ years of experience leading R&D or platform engineering organizations
Proven experience leading teams of 40+ engineers in global and matrixed organizations
Strong consumer mindset with experience building scalable and user-centric digital platforms and experiences
Strong understanding of cloud-native platforms, backend technologies, microservices, APIs, and distributed systems
Good understanding of mobile platforms and ecosystems including Android and iOS
Strong exposure to DevOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and platform operations
Good understanding of software security, privacy, compliance, and secure development practices
Experience working with external technology partners, vendors, and third-party platform ecosystems
Strong understanding of build vs. buy strategies and platform reuse models
Experience driving large-scale engineering transformation and platform modernization initiatives
Exposure to AI/GenAI technologies and practical adoption of AI-enabled engineering workflows
Experience leading or contributing to AI-based SDLC transformation initiatives is strongly preferred
Strong technical leadership, stakeholder management, influencing, negotiation, analytical, and people leadership skills
Ability to work effectively across organizational and hierarchical boundaries to drive alignment and execution
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional teams
