Job Description
This position is within the Global Risk and Compliance unit at American Express, the Enterprise’s 2nd line of defense.
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a model risk governance manager. Responsibilities for this role include overseeing and enhancing the organization's model risk governance framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., SR 11-7), and effectively managing the enterprise-wide model risk management program. The individual will collaborate with various stakeholders, including model owners, validation teams, internal audit, and senior management, to maintain a robust model risk management program. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of various technologies, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Governance Framework:
o Implement and maintain the organization's model risk management framework, policy, standards, and procedures.
o Stay informed about relevant industry regulations and standards.
o Maintain a comprehensive model inventory.
o Monitor adherence to model risk management policies and procedures, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Regulatory Compliance:
o Stay abreast of evolving regulatory requirements and industry trends related to model risk management.
o Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including SR 11-7 and other applicable guidelines.
o Manage regulatory and audit responses related to model risk management.
- Risk Reporting:
o Monitor and report on model risk exposures and trends.
o Ensure timely and accurate reporting of model risk issues to senior management and committee.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
o Act as a liaison between model risk management, business units, internal audit, and regulatory bodies.
o Collaborate with model owners and validation teams to ensure adherence to model risk governance requirements.
o Provide guidance and support to stakeholders on model risk-related matters.
This position will provide the opportunity to interface directly with Senior Leaders within GRC as well as across the enterprise; the nature of the work is fast paced with high impact.

- Able to demonstrate strong knowledge of risk and financial management
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to clearly articulate or interpret technical documents, regulatory guidelines, and complex project requirements in a concise manner to various stakeholders
- Outstanding multi-tasking and project management skills
- Superb teamwork aptitude, to work with colleagues and stakeholder across various AXP offices globally
- Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint skills;
- Extremely high attention to detail
Self-starter and enthusiastic attitude
Educational Requirement:
- Bachelor’s Degree in management or science (statistics, finance, decision science, economics, or closely related fields)
- Graduate degree such as M.S. and Ph.D. (in statistics, finance, decision science, economics, or closely related fields); or MBA is preferred
- 0-3 years if experience in related field
