Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance on production equipment and facility systems at Heinen’s Manufacturing Plant. This role is essential to ensuring optimal equipment performance, maintaining facility safety, and supporting overall operational reliability, while adhering to all applicable regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety standards, and Occupational Safety requirements (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space protocols).
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment issues in accordance with company standards and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production equipment and facility infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with Production to minimize downtime and support consistent product quality and operational efficiency.
- Maintain and manage parts and supply inventory; proactively identify needs and coordinate with Procurement to ensure timely availability.
- Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and complete equipment set up to verify readiness for production.
- Execute complex equipment repairs and maintenance using OEM specifications and industry best practices.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and PLC logic; troubleshoot electrical distribution systems and control circuits.
- Analyze equipment performance and operational data to identify opportunities for process improvements and enhanced maintenance strategies.
- Support contractor activities, including oversight and documentation related to equipment maintenance and facility projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to production team members to strengthen overall operational capabilities.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of food production equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general computer skills.
- Working knowledge of USDA, FDA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Preferred experience with PLC systems, electrical systems, HVAC, and pneumatic systems.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced production environment.
- Hands-on experience with a variety of food manufacturing equipment, including slicers, grinders, mixers, conveyors, Multivac machines, labeling systems, metal detectors, ovens, packaging equipment, and boilers.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, schematics, and welding experience preferred.
