Position Summary:


A Cloud Services Engineer is a technical expert responsible for designing, building, and managing cloud-based solutions for Port Houston. They work closely with development teams, architects, and other IT professionals to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of cloud services. Maintains, monitors, configures, and repairs computer systems and infrastructure to ensure that the uptime, performance, resources, and security meets the needs of the users. Troubleshoots and tests system components to ensure that computers, software, and 
network equipment function seamlessly together.

 

Key Responsibilities/Duties:


Server Operations

  • Accountable for configuring Window server operating systems
  • Responsible for the development of cloud infrastructure to host cloud applications, platforms and other user offerings/data
  • Determines infrastructure specifications and designs/develops large virtual infrastructure solutions in support of end users’ needs
  • Implements and tests infrastructure solutions using specialized infrastructure tools, techniques, and technologies to support multiple cloud platforms
  • Ensures infrastructure scalability and security. Expertise in virtualization technologies, servers, networks etc. Serve as a technical resource on Windows server systems hardware and software and its effective application at Port Houston facilities
  • Install and configure new Windows server hardware, software, peripherals, and services in accordance with current IT standards; manage, upgrade, and configure Active Directory infrastructure
  • Create and maintains network shared folder, shared printer, and group policy objectives
  • Monitor and review system logs, detect and troubleshoot problems
  • Install, manage, and maintain anti-virus software
  • Ensure all Windows systems are kept current regarding patch levels, software revisions, and feature sets
  • Assist with troubleshooting and problem resolution in Windows server and associated systems
  • Maintain, install, configure, and administer Web server software
  • Manage exchange storage and mailbox databases
  • Manage, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot all storage equipment and related services
  • Assist in storage backups, data retention and related user community services
  • Manage, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot all storage equipment and related services

Cloud Architecture & Design:

  • Design and implement scalable, highly available, and secure cloud architectures.
  • Select appropriate cloud services and technologies based on business requirements.
  • Ensure alignment with industry best practices and organizational standards.

Cloud Development & Deployment:

  • Develop and deploy cloud-native applications and services.
  • Automate build, test, and deployment processes using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Monitor and optimize application performance in the cloud.

Cloud Infrastructure Management:

  • Provision and manage cloud resources (e.g., virtual machines, storage, databases).
  • Configure and maintain cloud networks and security groups.
  • Implement monitoring and logging solutions for cloud infrastructure.

Cloud Security & Compliance:

  • Implement and manage cloud security controls to protect data and applications.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational policies.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

Troubleshooting & Support:

  • Troubleshoot complex cloud-related issues and provide timely resolutions.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to resolve cross-functional issues.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to development teams.
  • Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
  • Perform other duties as required

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Information
  • Systems, or related major from a public or accredited private academic institution required; additional years’ experience can be substituted in lieu of a undergraduate degree
  • Proven experience in designing, building, and managing cloud-based solutions.
  • Cloud-specific certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are highly valued.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent required
  • 7+ years of related information technology experience required

  • Advanced knowledge of Active Director
  • Knowledge of Apache Tomcat, Apache Webserver, Microsoft IIS, SolarWind
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Visio
  • Knowledge of Internet Information Server (IIS) and the basic operation of websites, 
  • Application Pools, IIS Administration, the IIS Metabase, Ports and SSL Certifications
  • Customer service skills
