We’re looking for a motivated and proactive Field Service Fitter to join our General Construction Industries (GCI) team in Townsville. You will be responsible for carrying out diagnostics, repairs, maintenance and servicing of Caterpillar and allied equipment used across construction, civil and infrastructure projects. This is a permanent opportunity offering job stability.

What you’ll be doing
As a Field Service Fitter at Hastings Deering, you will:

  • Deliver reliable equipment performance – carry out repairs, maintenance and rebuilds across a range of Caterpillar construction equipment to a high standard.
  • Diagnose with confidence – identify and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults accurately and efficiently.
  • Prevent issues before they arise – perform preventative maintenance and thorough machine inspections to maximise uptime.
  • Keep records accurate – complete service reports and documentation clearly and efficiently to support quality outcomes.
  • Work safely, every time – maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and adhere to quality standards at all times.
  • Collaborate for great results – work closely with customers and internal teams to deliver exceptional service and outcomes.

What you’ll need:  

A successful teammate will have experience in: 

  • Bring the right qualifications – hold a trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, or equivalent.
  • Apply industry experience – demonstrate hands-on experience working with earthmoving, construction, or heavy mobile equipment.
  • Diagnose with precision – utilise strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Commit to quality and safety – consistently deliver high-quality workmanship while maintaining a strong focus on safety.
  • Work flexibly and collaboratively – operate effectively both independently and as part of a team to achieve strong outcomes.
